Picked my Miata back up last night from my buddy who has been hard at work installing some upgrades for me in his spare time. He does great work and charges a reasonable rate, so I was happy to let him work on it in his downtime between work and family.
Here’s the short list of what he did for me:
Ohlins DFV coilovers
Progress swaybars with FM endlinks
FM Wilwood LBBK and stainless lines
Stoptech rotors
Goodwin Helmholtz midpipe
I also just picked up a set of black Enkei TSVs to hold me over until my PF05s would be ready to mount up. Here’s how the car looked before I dropped it off for the install:
And here’s how it sits now:
Here’s a shot of the Wilwood and Ohlin install and plenty of clearance with the TSVs. Stock wheels require a 5mm spacer.
And here’s the PF05 mounted up with the RE71R, which are off at my detailer now getting a ceramic coat.
I’ve only gotten to drive it a bit with the new setup and it just feels amazing. Ohlins are set to full soft right now and it’s just a really nice ride. He left the trunk plastics loose so I can dial in the settings I prefer before buttoning it back up. I’m hoping to have time this weekend to really put it through its paces and get everything dialed in.
The addition of the Helmholtz pipe was exactly what the exhaust needed - the RS2 duals I had on there to begin with were a marked improvement over stock, but the new midpipe just provides a much nicer sound. Not noticing any power increases, but it sounds like a proper sports car now.
I’ve got the NC3 bumper on order with a local body shop, they’re going to shoot it for me and I’ll be doing the install there, so more to come once that’s done!

Nice, I have the Ohlins DFV coilovers on my NB. I set them to 10/25 clicks for the street and bump them up to 15/25 clicks for racing.

Nice! I’ll try those settings this weekend. I have a great loop I love to do and there’s even a nice parking area along the way that I can pull off and make adjustments.

I’ll see if I can make one for sure.

Freaking solid setup. Well done.

Thanks! I can’t wait to shake it down more thoroughly.

Quick Google research says that mine have 25 clicks of adjustment, but the NC model has 30 clicks? Food for thought, anyway.

Weird! My plan is to head up to my favorite driving road and do it full soft, then go nuts and turn everything full hard, so I can count the clicks then. Afterwards I’ll probably dial it back to where it feels good from a competitive standpoint and then back further to where the ride is comfy enough.

Nice! What size wheels/tires?

Very nice set up. I sorta wish I kept my NC Miata PRHT and went a similar route for autocross. I did put an RX8 front bar and some cheater Mazdaspeed springs (shhhh...) on it. Ra n R comps as well so that was fun.

I cheated a bit when I had my BRZ too :)
This now all has me classed in STR, so I’ll be wholly noncompetitive, but it’ll be fun to drive, which is the primary goal.

The TSVs that are on it are 17x8 with 215/45 Firestone Indy500s.
The PF05s that are about to go on it are 17x8.5 with 235/45 Bridgestone RE71Rs.

We all have some sort of “cheater” mod on our cars. :)
“Back in the day”, I blew up my TSM JDM STi swapped GF ImpreTza so I borrowed my buddy’s truly stock (had a front sway and that’s it) ‘04 STi. Won the event and the guy w/a super modified EVO was looking over the car ready to protest it for something. hahaha...
I really haven’t paid attention to STR at all. What cars are dominating the class?
I was moving towards making my 2018 WRX into a Nationals spec STH car but one local event with coils, sways and tires convinced me that it’s too much of a pig of a car to be fun, even if I won the event (#humblebrag #norealcompetitionthatday). Most fun I’ve had since the ImpreTza wagon days was in my old Fiesta ST in HS.

S2000s have owned STR for quite some time but the ND2 Miatas seem very competitive as well.
