The world needs more green cars.
Happy Monday.

I spotted a Chevy Equinox this weekend, a vehicle I’d ordinarily barely notice, but it was a wonderful metallic green.

I’ve only seen that color a handful of times but it always catches me off guard. You just don’t expect such a brilliant color on what is otherwise a stylistic mess.

Speaking of, hot damn do I want this car.

I believe GM offered that on the Cruze, too. Pretty color

Between the car, the Mid Century modern house, and the woman dressed like they’re going on a major job interview when they’re just hanging out in the yard, it would be hard to get a more quintessentially 1950s middle class picture.

Sad but true that you rarely see it. Wonder if we should blame dealers or customers. Chevy killed the green on the C7 after a year and I never see the new green Camaro , but green Challengers are every where.

winks in green

This is actually a Ford promo shot, but yeah. I can’t imagine putting on a suit every day to go out and do mundane things. But they did.

I love mid century modern architecture.

It’s a mixture of most people just buying what’s on the lot and extremely rare colors tending to be worth slightly less. Personally I love having my car be an extremely unusual color but not everyone wants that. Most people don’t mind red but green is a little out there for a commuter crossover even if it is my favorite automotive color.
I’ve seen the new Versa in that fantastic shade of orange far more often than I expected to. It’s actually quite a good looking car.
Automakers tend to build their earlier build cars in a higher percentage of fun colors. I suspect so passersby will notice the new model more. Free advertising!

That decade was the last gasp of that, the move to suburbia caused things to become gradually more casual. Maintaining a house and yard, hosting barbeques, shopping in strip malls instead of classy downtown department stores, etc, all contributed to it.

Saw someone R I P P I N G one of these last week like a complete asshole. It sounded awesome though.

I hope I’ m that asshole in a couple of years! But, I’ve only seen one in the wild twice and I think it was the same car.

It may be giving automakers too much credit. But take the Atlas for example. When they first came out, a solid 75% of the local dealer inventory was a non boring color. Now, that’s more like 15% and most of that percent is blue while before they had that greenish yellow and lots of other cool shades.

I would say finding one of these used will be a PITA, but we all k now car shopping is fun.

That car is super cool but I’m more interested in the house.
I so want a mid-century modern house.

Just before the zenith of the American working/middle class.
I’ve heard car salesmen call it “no sale green”, so there might be some latent consumer resistance to the color.
![]() 09/28/2020 at 12:37 |

I guess it’s one of those colors that you either like or you don’t. Just about any other color you could put up with if you had to.

I like lighter blues, apparently also a turn-off to the mass market, so I can sympathize.

We could use more green cars, but personally I hope this green car has gone to the crusher:

I like green. I have owned multiple green vehicles. I have found that a green extended cab truck with manual transmission a very difficult sell. I bought it new as a left over, and when I put it up for sale it took months to sell

My dad had a bright green Karmann Ghia, perhaps a 72. Not sure. He called it “The Pickle.” It was awesome, and my brother drove the crap out of it. Alas, I was too young to have a chance to drive it.

Yeah, that green is not good. Eye-catching yes, but not good. It seems that they’ve learned their lesson for the current generation though.

I like the K armann Gh ia. Twenty something years ago, w hen I was shopping for my first convertible, it was near the top of my list. There was one listed in the classifieds not too far from home. The lady selling it was a flake, and numerous times when I called I was told she couldn’t show it today or the next. She did tell me that the car was in great condition, and that she was the original owner, having purchased the car right after graduating from college. I finally got her nailed down for a date and time after five or six calls over 10 days. I really wanted to see this car. When I showed up at the house, there was a Karmann Ghia parked by the road in tall grass with 4 flat tires torn top and lots of body rot. It looked to be a parts car, at best. I look around and don’t see any other Karmann Ghias, so I ring the bell. Th e woman comes to the door and I introduce myself, then I asked “So where’s the car?”. Sh e says “It’s right out front, didn’t you see it?”. I’m perturbed, after jumping through hoops for a week and a half, this is it, this is the car the???? So I say something to her like “You want $5500 for that? Where’s the car that’s in great condition?” To which she replied “ I don’t know what people expect”. “Something better than that! ” I said as I t urned and walk away. I bought a Fox Mustang convertible weeks later, after an RX7 conver tible didn’t pan out either.
A pickle for your time.

That is not appealing to the eyes, not one bit.

What a beauty. One thing I remember about is that every time you took a hard left you could smell the gasoline that sloshed out of the tank.

That sounds like an issue that needed to be addressed.

Actually, I think it was a feature installed at the factory.

A feature that k eeps people from smoking in your car.
