While technically not “on the street”, the “lieu dit” (not sure on how to translate but it’s the name of the area/street) is called “La Rue” which is translated to “The Street” so it is actually correct to call it a DOTS.

And it is the first snow of the season on the Chartreuse that you can vaguely see.

Looks more heaven than a street to me. That is a seriously beautiful view. I love the mountains.

There were beautiful rays of light on the fresh snow with clouds around on Belledonne (the mountain chain the house is on) when I was on my way here, unfortunately i couldnt take a picture.

ps: added a picture of with the street called La Rue for visual reference.

I love how light reacts with he mountain mist too. The photos show quite a bit of that going on.

Ah, so that's "the street."

Ah, but I can translate! Rural Ireland is divided into townlands which are just about the same as lieux dits. Like lieux dits, they’re often called after geographical features. Unlike lieux dits, their names have been Anglicised by people who may not have known what the name me ant so the original me aning is often unclear. The town of Letterkenny (an actual town, but the same applies) for example has an English sounding name but it was originally Leitir Ceanainn which has nothing to do with letters (it means Hillside of the O’Cannons).

What part of France are you in? This is so incredibly pretty! I’m impressed to see FWD cars parked up a wet grass slope, that seems like a tricky parking spot if conditions get a bit messy! (Also, do a lot of Europeans buy Hyundai Tucsons? I thought that was an American/Australian thing. I figured most Europeans just go for the nearest VAG dealership when they need a CUV )

The Tucson is quite unusual here, the neighbor also have (or had) a Civic and i think he also had another Japanese car at some point but i am not sure.

It’s where i grew up and my mother lives, it’s at 20km north of Grenoble, on the Belledonne mountain chain (the house is something like 200m higher than the valley) and the mountains that you can vaguely see in the photos are part of the Chartreuse mountain chain (and the Chartreuse abbey where the monks take the herbs for the liquor is actually behind those snowy bits (and a bit more on the north (which is the right on the photo)).

About the parking, it is slightly tricky to spot because its a sort of “S” that you must climb with uneven banking and slippery grass but you can take a slight momentum and it’s going just fine as the cars are not too heavy (even my 74 years old mother can do it on her small displacement manual diesel with a terrible flywheel), when it’s snowy or frozen it can be trickier but we can still park in front of the house or even in the street if needed.

On the first post i did on Oppo i did put my A4 in front of the house, where i did park the A3 today was on the left of those photos, just after the house :

Such a cute cat! I can see why they’re called the Chartreuse Mountains, just gorgeous! (I kid, but it is just incredibly green in these photos; here all our hills are covered in sad dry yellow grass, but I suppose it’s very Mediterranean) I previously knew of Grenoble, but don’t really have a mental image for the region or the map surrounding it. As for the parking, that’s fair— I don’t think our American barges would fair too well as they’re quite a bit heavier and would probably sink in, but it makes a lot of sense for small and light cars.

The Chartreuse color comes from the color of the liquor that itself was invented by the monks of the “Grande Chartreuse” monastery which itself is located on the Chartreuse mountain chain .

Grenoble i s at the beginning of the a lps between three mountain chains : The Vercors (part of the pre-alps), the Chartreuse (part of the pre-alps) and Belledonne (part of the a lps), it’s at ~1h45 in the southwest of Geneva and ~ 1h at the southeast of Lyon.

ps: forgot to mention that the race of the cat is “Chartreux” (technically he is crossed with a Birmanese but he looks only Chartreux :  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chartreux
