Well, o f course they are. We know why. But don’t let that get you down! Here is an excellent documentary about the golden age of air racing. Enjoy.
As a side note, this gives the racers a chance to save money and fix and repair and prepare properly and I’m betting that 2021 will be one of the biggest fields yet at the races, assuming the economy doesn’t take a toll on the racers/owners themselves. In the top Unlimited class, it takes $5 million to field a Mustang just for the Reno weekend. Plus, the smaller classes will be very ready. So plan to go! I am.

Not surprising, but still disappointing.

I hope they are still paying the mechanics; if they go out of business air racing is dead

not surprising considering the year 2020 is also cancelled for 2020. Might as well make it official and cancel the '21 races, too.

The 200,000 people on the ground watching. There are no real sponsors, at least paying large sums. Gate reciepts are really the only thing making it happen year after year. The teams dont make any money doing this.

I took my parents to the Re no Air Races in 2010, when they came to visit me in California. My step- dad was an aviation fanatic since childhood, and was a licensed pilot before he had a driver’s license. He had always wanted to go, but living on the east coast made this more of a bucket list event. His health was failing, and his ability to walk had diminished, so I knew that this would most likely be the only chance he would likely have to attend. We stayed for most of the day, but his meds were wearing off, and he wanted to go lay down. He passed away 15 m onths later. I will always be glad to rem em ber that day we spent at the air rac es and how happy it m ade him.

Air racing is one sport I always wish got more coverage.
The Red Bull Air Race was one of my favorite things, and so well done. I’m sad its gone, and I hope Reno doesn’t follow suit
