The internal software systems architecture over at Tesla is a complete house of cards.

Kinja'd!!!

The sub-Reddit with anecdotes from former Tesla software engineers is hilarious. It’s sad that Fred can’t synch to his free Roadsters though.

Why cars shouldn’t be a “service”.

So if the cloud goes down, that means the physical keys don’t work?

Yeah, I think it’s so stupid that even the “virtual” key from the phone authenticates via the app.  If your app is logged out, I think you are locked out.

Yeah, it’s funny—- in theory Tesla owes him TWO Nuevo Roadsters from The Referral Program. AFAIK, Fred’s never bought a new Tesla, only got ‘em for free for pumping the stock.

Wonder if Fred cares that his New Roadsters are years late?

Stock is still way up. Nothing to see here. Anyone who says otherwise is just some kind of denier / short seller. Move along now.

Having heard stories about the early days of SpaceX, I believe this.

The Air Force and NASA fixed that company up good they sure did

It is funny to see how the market reacted to Battery Day...

They are doing solid work.

I still contend that there have to be days where Gwynne goes home and screams into a pillow for an hour after Elon wandered over to “help”.

Wait, does that mean it needs a cell signal to work? What if you’re someplace remote, like rock climbing or something, because the Model Y and Model X are active outdoor lifestyle accessory vehicles.

The card (Model 3) or fob (Sand X) should work fine anywhere. Just if you rely on your phone you’re screwed

I wasn’t shocked when I was at a conference, probably 2005-ish where Musk blew off a keynote with a bunch of real space engineers in the room. Sent his VP, and ex-USAF guy, who actually knew his stuff. They don’t let M usk touch anything at SpaceX, best I can tell.

This. Or cars as Software, with the usual paywall bullshit software companies have been up to lately. I mean, if I go this right, most of the differences between Tesla’s Trim Levels are softwares features locked behind paywalls, right? And that’s why it’s so important to Tesla that customers can’t mess around in their own cars, because it’s not that hard to crack or circumvent the software limitations?

If so, they’re basically counting on people being attached to an older model of car buying (paying more for actual features and parts that had to be phisically built and installed into a car), so they don’t realize they can actually pirate their way up the trim levels.

It’s possible they tweaked the Model 3 implementation, but early on it did require active functionality in The App, which needed to be logged into the servers. In theory that was why it was so important to have the “physical credit card” along, just in case the app wasn’t working.

Kinja'd!!!

I thought they re-tooled and released a physical fob as a companion to the Phone App.

Pretty much “ as a service” shouldn’t be a service. The whole concept is just a racket to screw people out of more money.

Good point. You can see on the daily chart that most of the loss was well before the network crash. I guess if you have been promising the moon everytime you speak and been very late on your previous promises, and then you show up for your next big event and don’t promise the moon that everyone expects, there is a bit of a consequence.

Th ere is still a lot of moon priced into the stock.  You can't justify the pumped up value with just some decent progress.  They need to stay on track to rule the world.
