Thursday is DWA Rally From Home North. Basically a 1 day version of the 3 day rally sans hotels and driver meetings.
I’ve been hustling to get the Exocet prepped. It’s only 3.5 items: how hard could that be?
1) New instrument cluster
2) New headlights
3) Fuel cell
3.5) Fix exhaust hangar (just a couple of welds )
Yeah, it’s more complicated than I thought .
Friday, I pulled the old tank off .
Did some CAD (Cardboard Aided Drafting)
Now, I will admit, I’d been cheating all week by building this while on work calls. It’s essentially a cage for the fuel cell. Can’t have it slide around while cornering.
Cutting the 6061 wasn’t too bad. Thanks, cardboard pattern!
Saturday, time to rock. The cage does 2 things: holds the tank and also proves a box of extra rigidity to the 6061 sheet.
Tank fit down nicely.
Ah yes, the cluster, it’s an Android powered rear view mirror. I cut up some extra 6061 and made a hood for it. I took apart the mirror and re-used some of the hardware to mount it on a big aluminum angle that I picked up on ebay. I painted both with bedliner to cut down on glare. I hinged the visor to make the touch screen easier to use and put some powerful magnets and some steel washers to hold things together while driving.
I still need to figure out h ow to mount the fuel gauge...
... and the power for the screen / phone charger (or vest heater).
Okay, Sunday. Back to the tank, getting it bolted down was a bit tricky. I bolted the tank to the sheet first, then getting the sheet bolted in was a bit weird. The rear bolts were tough to access.
I did the wiring. At least I think I did. Don’t want to run the pump without gas (could burn it out) and can’t put gas in until plumbed. Unfortunately, the hardline under the car had some grub on it and I didn’t realize it until after I gnarled up my AN adapter. Had to order another one.
Monday! I got the AN-fittings and hoses made. I got my replacement hardline adapter (installed under the car). Just missing my vent tubing (adapter comes tomorrow).
So in the meantime, I got the rear view camera wired. Because why the hell not?
Still got a ways to go!

What mirror are you using? I got one recently for the truck but I haven’t installed it yet. I l
ike that yours displays more info, or at least seems to.

its an Ekleva 10 inch. I installed RealDash on it so you’re see an
OBD2 app and the rear view.
