Back in 1997 I was lucky enough to tour the warehouses that were home to MST3K in Eden Prairie, MN.   They weren’t filming and few people were around, but we saw some cool stuff. Here are some of the pics!

You know, I never considered it, but having interchangeable heads for Servo makes sense. I assumed they were doing all the effects with the same head.

That's really cool.

Wow, that’s incredible! A rare treat that’s for sure. One of my favorite shows of all time.

I like how they just have Servo heads all over the place and they even just had an unpainted torso lying there too. I didn’t see any Crows around in those pics.

The Mystery Science Theater globe thing and other models are larger than I thought they'd be. Huh.

There were many Servos , but swapping heads likely made things much easier.

The models were quite big. I will have to go back through the pics again and see if I can find any. I also remember seeing the wall that they filmed the movies against.

Oh, yeah, so the wall was just like a large green screen? I always wondered how they knew where to look or point at when reacting to something on screen.

I remember it being white, but it was a long time ago. They had monitors down in front that they could see.

Ah, that what I thought. Perhaps they taped a grid onto the monitors and the same grid onto the wall so they knew where to look? That part always impressed me given I knew they were really looking at a blank wall.

Amazing post. Thank you so very much. You walked behind the curtain and from what I see it was still completely magical.

I’m glad you enjoyed the pics!  It was fun to see. The creativity and fun was pretty evident.
