You may avoid the FP, but occasional contributing writer, one worth reading, David Obuchowski posted a remembrance for Jim Barbour on Friday afternoon that I had not seen and thought was worth highlighting by linking from Oppositelock.

It’s been a long time, but I listened to that podcast (10/10 would recommend) . An amazing gentleman. May he rest in peace.

I posted this yesterday in MaxVrms pub about the state of FP and Oppo...

- It’s disheartening. I complain every month about the changes [to FP] particularly in the past year.

I’ve visited a couple times this week and stumbled on a one off article from David Obuchowski linked above; a eulogy to the awesome Jim Barbour. I was sad to find such few replies (and I know they’re few because David goes through the comment section and responds to like 90% of comments, so almost half the comments are his). His more freelance writing and subjects are some of the best I’ve ever seen on Jalopnik and remain years later.

BC Oppos also had the pleasure of meeting him (and each other) set-up by CoFL a few years back.

Thank you so much for posting this. It means the world to Jim’s family and to me.

Thanks so much. I think about that hang out all the time. Had such a great time. I really appreciate your kind, complimentary words. It’s humbling. I have more essays in the works. Some about cars. One will not be in Jalopnik. You’ll see it, though, I’m sure. That said, I still hope to write for Jalopnik. I adore the community. That’s why I spend so much time responding to comments.
