From my Vietnam War searches. Vietnam at the time had a dizzying array of vehicles:

Just watched yesterday a video of a Youtuber visiting the L’Aventure Peugeot archives (where the Peugeot museum is storing it’s cars) and at some point there is a 605 limousine (that was from a ministry or possibly presidential) that really looks like that 607 Paladine (when the hardtop is closed) :
There is also the 607 Pescarolo as 17 :20 (a concept car with the ES V6 pushed to more than 400hp).

W110 fintail looks like a 2nd generation car, would have been nearly new then.
Reminds me of the car in “The Killing Fields”, the Cambodian genocide-themed film that takes place around the same time. “Mercedes number one ”:

Ah yes I remember that in the film. It’s fun to see the city pictures from that time.

I stopped scrolling after that one, too. I know she’d at least be in her 70s now, but, still

Rather arresting, I’d say.
Did you listen to the Steely Dan song? Definitely one of my favorites of theirs.

The Traction Avante and the 2CV van are very nice.

That Traction Avant in the fourth picture is very unusual. The 2CV van there is cool too, but I very much like the Renault 4CV taxi in the first picture.

Somehow, I had never heard that one before, but, yeah, it fits.
I know even positive stereotypes are hurtful, but my dad swears he has never been in a place with as high a concentration of drop- dead gorgeous women as when he was in Vietnam. He gets kind of mad when we joke, but sometimes I think it wouldn't be too surprising to find out I've got a 52 year old half sister.

He was in Japan for awhile but never made it to Europe. I’d be happy with either, but my grandfather specifically ordered him not to marry a Japanese woman, and not to get a tattoo outside the United States, I gather those were the only two pieces of advice he had ever received up to that point, other than don’t shine signal mirrors at landing airplanes and don’t bury used motor oil in the backyard, but in fairness, those two should have been self evident.

He still laughs about it, apparently he had to explain several times that North Vietnam was a different country from Japan, and that we were allies with Japan now, took awhile to sink in. I don’t think grandpop ever got over the war until he finally got sick of GM’s crap and traded his Oldsmobile for an Acura Legend. For us, that was the signal that he had finally moved on and let the past sleep. At one point, years earlier, he had written a memo banning Japanese cars from the Hurst company parking lot, so it was a big move for him.

My in laws never told the grandparents about me, they were all dead by a couple years ago, one was 98. My mother in law was afraid they would drop dead. My wife’s mom and dad are cool though.

Older generations were weird, my maternal grandparents got mad at my mom for marrying an Italian because they weren’ t sure if he was actually qualified as “white” - serious, my mom says it took like 10 years for them to make up their minds on that . Nuts to them, they’re still married and happy 37 years later, and my grandparents’ marriage devolved to petty, passive aggressive mind games long before that. Oh, and one of my uncle s married a really amazing and crazy smart woman from Shanghai, she’s started like 3 businesses and charms the hell out of everyone who meets her, pretty sure that ticked them off, too.

Yeah I hear they hated the Italians when they came over to NYC. I’m from Hawaii so it’s a pretty different experience. There was some resistance to haoles and natives but they must have gotten over it because all the big families have islanders in the family. My great uncle married a Tahitian woman, they all speak French now. All this mainland racial strife going on is kind of a mystery to me, I have no reference for black vs white personally. I dated a girl from Shanghai, I went to the race there when they first started racing there. I also dated a girl from Thailand, she worked for Visa Mastercard and I travelled all over with her. I just went to India a couple years ago and wow there are some amazing ladies there too shhhh. Islander girls often like to get pregnant and then you are locked in cuz! My friend Eddie has two kids and thought she was on the pill, we don’t know brah?!

Its all a bunch of superficial shit, I think someone’s skin color is the least interesting trait about them, I’d rather talk to somebody and find out what they think and feel. That takes insight and intelligence, not just the random chance of genetics. Anyone who gives the slightest shit about that superficial garbage can go to hell, we all have different life experiences that inform who we are as a person, but fundamentally, we’re the same when you come down to what really matters. We’re all here for a very short period of time, and we all want to live our lives as happily and peacefully as possible, hopefully raise kids, and hopefully leave some sort of legacy that leaves the world better than we found it. Or, at least, not worse. People need to get over themselves. Celebrate the cultural differences that make life rich and interesting, but scrap all the other bullshit.

Very true, there sure are cultures I do not like though , but I have met people from those cultures that don’t agree with the traditional BS and wish they could just be people .

Its something that I doubt will ever be truly fixed, but will just get gradually better each generation. Sad, but that’s probably the best that we’ll get.
