My wife and I, much like nearly everyone else, have decided to give camping a go. Other than a couple overland trips with my Dad, I have not been camping since my early teens and my wife in her mid teens. Plus, if when I obtain an offroad vehicle, this is something that I want to do a lot.

So we dutifully went to Cabela’s and bought a decent tent from their in house line and then bought a ton of Woods stuff from crappy tire. All in, not overly cheap but the Kia’s sale covered it. We got a tent with a vestibule so Targa could have her own bedroom.

We ended up at Nahatlach park again, where the Sportwagen did quite well on the FSR leading into the park and ecological area. Some sites were off limits due to clearance, but we managed to get a nice site where the lake flows into the river.

The scenery was quite nice too, we stopped at Alexandra Bridge near Hells Gate on the way back and then hiked a bit near Hope as well.

The first photo is my favorite. It makes me want to sit in one of those chairs, have a beer or thirteen, throw the empties on to the fire, eat some smores and pass out in the tent by 10 pm.

Thanks! It would be awesome to drive across, but unfortunately , it’s been abandoned since the 80's and there are blocks to prevent it.

I have found a surprising number of permanently-closed bridges that Apple Maps thinks are open, even ones closed for decades. I doubt many people get caught by them, since they’re pretty far out of the way on small roads, but every now and then I lose a half hour or more as I’m out exploring while trying to reach someplace.

Nice! Looks beautiful. I’m surprised that they let you have a fire, but camping is always  better with one.

I need to get the fuck out of town. I haven’t had time off since last summer. So usually take a week for my sons scout troop for summer camp. Tent, cot and a fishing pole and I’m good. But, Covid put an end to that this year. So, maybe I take a week and get out for some alone time.  Don’t know where, but it’s better have good fishing.

The last time I slept in a tent was a decade ago and I had a C7 [aka M16] rifle on my chest but that was, as the PO2 put it “not camping”. Actual camping I haven’t done in nearly 2 decades.

I’m more of a cabin person as opposed to tents or RV/Trailer . I like the wooden smell/ atmosphere, and having rooms . Half way glampy I guess...

Fire bad!

Ooh sorry that's just my knee-jerk reaction after breathing nothing but smoke for a week and a half

We triple checked, fire is allowed. Seemed a bit....shitty lighting a fire when all you can see is smoke but it's like spitting in the ocean

Oh for sure, I knew you’re smart enough to have checked first and do it safely . My gut reaction was to be taken aback. Not seeing a blue sky in almost two weeks will do fine things to you!

How do you like that cooking grate? We have one that looks very similar I got off Amazon and it has a lot of paint flaking off it (apparently and understandably a common problem on these) from the extreme heat. Need to get a flat skillet for next summer to put on top of that sucker to just throw food on.

It was our first time using it, but I thought it was slick. Light weight and decent construction

I use those same chairs on the boat.  The insulated pocket is good for keeping a cell phone out of the sun.

Yeah, that’s typically what I’ve used it for.  Those chairs were the only thing we owned prior to deciding to go camping lol

Usually when I travel for a rally I go out early so I can spend a few days camping. This year there's been no rally so there's been no camping. Didn't realize how much I missed it until I saw your pics

Yeah just watch out for the paint chipping...especially if you’re ever considering cooking anything directly on it. At least ours is definitely more of a surface for other pots and pans to be put on than for food itself. For the price we paid I’m more than happy with it too, folds up nicely and is light.

Ahh you're the asshole who I have to dig melted cans out of my fire pit before using it lol. Nah just kidding, anybody that goes to bed on time is fine by me no matter what they are doing. It's the babies screaming at midnight or the parties. I need to do more dispersed camping away from people!

Lol. I’ve melted a few cans in my time. And bottles.

I prefer to spend my camping  days hiking, swimming, etc to the point where a few beers and some dinner is all I want before crashing hard and getting a good nights sleep.  No late nights for me.

Exactly! Im always dead tired while out camping due to whatever I did that day. Plenty of times Ive wanted to go to bed at 8pm but stayed up just to enjoy night settling in. I like winter camping when the sun is set before 5pm, makes it much easier to go “well ive had dinner and im tired, 7pm sleep is fine by me!”
