I want (need) to hear stories about Maggie May... but I can’t make my way to Mark’s comment to tell him!
I swear, it’s like they’re actively trying to drive people away from their platform.

I wonder if it’s intentional or if they broke it and don’t know how to fix it.

Try clicking on the date/time. This sometimes works.

Ernie actually
cared, but he’s gone.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 10:28 |

Yes, that works in notifications, but this is just in his “discussions”.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 10:28 |

Yeah, it’s maddening. I found the thread I wanted to check in on in my own discussions, and of course there was nothing to click.
It’s a shame it’s the best worst platform we can use.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 10:29 |

Yup, wonder if it’s going to be a death of 1000 cuts. I could see it getting to a point where it’s so unusable no one visits anymore.

Clearly, they don’t care about us, so as long as they’re getting enough traffic on the main G/O sites, they don’t care, but if they don’t do something about the absolute
cluster of
ads there, I’m guessing more and more will give up on them.

That also has very much annoyed me from time to time. And there’s no indication of what post it’s on. Theoretically you could see if the comments next to it are on the same post (basically intermediate value theorem for Kinja) and then just scour it but who’s got time for that? Who does not.
I feel like we need a name for this. Like,
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Yeah, that’s it. If some of us figured out how to hack the byline back surely they did it on purpose then. But they are also breaking their own commenting system which is like the number one reason why Kinja is and/or was a great platform.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 10:43 |

There are so many old features that were great that are now gone.
I loved being able to tag a part of an image and comment related to that.
And knowing, in your notifications, what post/comment other people starred...

Well, it’s late September and you really should be back in school...
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:02 |

Man, I’m getting paid to gripe about this! LOL
Been waaay too slow recently...
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:05 |

All those sounds great. How would that first one work?
Being fairly new I really don’t remember what people call the good old days.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:08 |

We’ve been bitching about the commenting platform here for over a decade. It wasn’t always Kinja though.

Well there's no time like the present to complain.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:14 |

It was pretty cool - on the main (top)
imag
e of an article, you could click on a certain point on the image, and then comment, and your comment (down in the comment section) would have kind of a
thumbnail of the part of the image you were referencing.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:14 |

Haha - completely missed
that! Great song.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:14 |

I’m working on it...

This is what I like to hear. =)
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:43 |

OK, weird: I hit “Save,” and it saves to drafts. Then I hit “Publish,” confirm my choice, and it says “Post Save Failed” and kicks me back to the editor. But it still shows up as a draft. Is it me or Kinja?
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:49 |
|
That sounds amazing! Now you have to crop screenshots if you want to emphasize one part of the image.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:50 |

If there’s an error with a photo in the post, it wrecks everything. Your best chance is to copy and paste into a new post or reload and retype whatever’s missing. Definitely Kinja’s fault.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:51 |

AH. Thanks, I’ll fiddle with it as soon as I get a sec.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 11:53 |

Hmm... so it’s saved in your drafts? As a test, can you post a sample post (just title and a little text) on your page (not on OPPO)?
I think you do need to accept the invite to be an author on OPPO, if you didn’t do that. Shows up in your notification, I believe?
09/16/2020 at 11:57 |
|
Little column A, little column B...
![]() 09/16/2020 at 12:43 |
|
Yep, I accepted the invite, and it saves as a draft in Oppo. Test post on my own page works fine.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 13:03 |
|
Okay, can you make the big post to your own page? Can be shared to OPPO from there, if necessary.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 13:24 |

You can access those with Oppositelockator , you just have to click on the replies icon that will get you to the replies section of the post.
ps: if needed and it’s not tricky, i could add a “Read more...” with the direct link to the reply.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 13:26 |

It works from one’s “discussions” list?
![]() 09/16/2020 at 13:27 |
|
Yes, on pages with a list of “articles” such as the front page of Oppo or the “posts” and “discussion” pages of users (but ATM only limited to URLs on oppositelock .kinja.com and kinja.com ; if needed on other sites that have their own domains, i can add that) .
![]() 09/16/2020 at 13:32 |

Nice. My notifications list shows up completely differently than my discussion list.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 19:54 |
|
Ok, tried it from my home computer as well, just to see... I can save drafts, but I get an error every time I try to publish to oppo
. I even tried an all-text post, snd it failed as well.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 20:35 |
|
I was able to share it from your page to OPPO, maybe something’s still up with your authorship, or there was just something wonky with that post.
![]() 09/16/2020 at 20:58 |
|
To see comments on the post I shared , cl ick Pending, then Show Pending (won’t be necessary once we get your posts published directly to OPPO).

duurtlang’s suggestion works for me on mobile (specifically - on Firefox for iOS, but only in portrait mode - the timestamps disappear if I hold the phone in landscape orientation) .
In discussions, not just in notifications, to be clear.

I’m on Chrome on iOS now, no go.
Was on Firefox on Win10.
![]() 09/17/2020 at 01:06 |

Chrome on any platform, mobile or not, has never played nicely with Kinja for me. ( I use Edge on Win10 with AdBlock Plus & some custom filters for the Kinjaverse , and see no advertising at all.)

Morning Mark, maybe try just a simple photo post to OPPO this morning? If that doesn’t work, you may need to touch base with a moderator to figure out what’s going on.
![]() 09/17/2020 at 11:21 |

Nope, still fails to post
. Who do I need to talk to?
![]() 09/17/2020 at 11:25 |

I put in a note to Max for you.

Seems like you were listed as a Free Lancer, I switched it to Author, let me know if this works.

Looks like it worked, than
k you!
