I’ve come to the conclusion that we will see in this decade a shift in which car manufacturers will begin selling not only more SUVs, but their SUVs will be better for enthusiasts more interesting than their regular-height-cars (RHC) .
As an example, Ford currently sells two RHC; the Fusion and the Mustang. But they’ll sell the Bronco and the Mach-E; which are both more interesting than the Mustang.
Audi’s RS Q3 is more interesting than the RS3, but the SQ8 is much stupider than the S8; so Audi still has better RHC’s than SUVs
However, and some will hate me for this. BMW makes more interesting SUV’s than RHC (and even prettier, or maybe less ugly), just check the X3 M and the X5 M

What is this? Opposite Day? I do agree I’d much rather drive a BMW X3 than say an M4.

I actually came to this conclusion when browsing the Porsche website.
I think the Cayenne Turbo S is more interesting than the 911 Turbo S
Now, as for the Cayman 4.0
and the Macan Turbo Performance Pack
... I think the Cayman is more interesting.

It’s the day of Dolores’ shout which supposedly sparked the independence movement in Mexico... but it’s a holiday I’ve grown not to care about.

I absolutely get where you're coming from as far as interesting vs boring implying more updated vs less updated. But the premise that enthusiasts would go for what just gets more design interest and therefore more of an update seems flawed if not exactly opposite. Enthusiasts tend to want the past, rejecting change, nostalgia the drug of choice. Lay people like shiny, new, upgrades. These are obviously oversimplified generalizations, but I think the gist is clear.

It’s got a more interesting powertrain, it can be had with larger rims, it comes in the same amount of body shapes. The design is a bit stupider, but hell. The only interesting 911 for sale right now is the Carrera S with the manual gearbox.
The Cayenne also has air suspension.

I guess you are right in that sense.

I dunno, I like turbo V8's and flat 6's. That’s a push.
Larger rims are Bad.
Engine in the back - more interesting
Air suspension is for taking the vehicle off-road. And I’m sure every Cayenne Turbo owner takes their new toy straight to Moab.

Your basic assumption that the Bronco is more interesting than the Mustang is wrong so your conclusion is not supported.

Shit, I guess I won’t be able to use it as my thesis...
Hold up,
Are you passively implying the Mach E is more interesting than the mustang?
![]() 09/15/2020 at 23:55 |

But could you fit mudder tyres on a 911?
![]() 09/15/2020 at 23:58 |

No, that is an unknown since the Mach E is not in production.
