Down at the museum, parked out front, turned out to belong to the guy working the front desk
Pretty understated for 1956. The slide levers underneath the dash are HVAC. No dash vents, but there are (not pictured) four roof vents, one above each seat. Neat .
Handbuilt, they were the most expensive American car you could buy back in the day, Dwight Eisenhower, Frank Sinatra, and Liz Taylor all had one back in the day according to Wikipedia. Don’t think I had ever seen one before in real life.

That’s my favorite, there was one in the classic area at the last auto show, I work on the shows so I get to wal k around for a couple days with no public. I had never really looked at one of these before, I would totally own one.

Everything is great except for that damn continental kit.

I didn't even notice that, had to check to see if it had knock off wire wheels, nope, but they are some sweet rims.

No matter what they give you, they still owe you.

It’s a CONTINENTAL.

In black. And stunning. That shiny black paint hides effing *nothing*.

No joke, I think the term continental kit actually comes from the original Continental.

That is ridiculous levels of shine.

Well yeah. Phil Leotardo even had a continental kit on his Continental.

That’s what I’m thinking.

There aren’t many people you can say that about, but it seems like a lot of them showed up in the 1940's.

Just in time. Happened in the late 1700s too. Patriots can be forgiven for thinking God is looking out for us.

Maybe. But it’s not a strategy.

It is not. But I’ll be grateful just the same. What we take for granted as history now was perhaps not so certain back then.

O hindsight is always 20/20, and history is always written to make it seem as if the outcome was predestined in some way.
But it’s not, when you’re in the middle of it. And having things take a fortuitous turn in the past is no guarantee of a repeat. Empires rise, and empires fall. They do not last forever. It takes effort to maintain them for as long as possible.

I love the Continental Mark II custom made for Liz Taylor, the blue paint was designed to match her eyes.
