In the spirit of the original
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
from 2008, I present to you the inaugural version of
How OPPO Is Your Car?
!

If, after all that, you don’t like the score your car ended up with, try Future next gen S2000 owner’s formula:
I vote for one system/category and one only.
Is your car a soul sucking succubus that you loathe getting into everytime? -1 point
Do you derive pleasure from your vehicle, whether it be through the steering, a can’t be killed attitude, second glances after you park, or a loving care of maintenance well past the point others just give up? +2 points.
There is no more Oppo car than others. Oppo is an attitude. It’s a loving devotion to doing coolant swaps on time. It’s busted knuckles to get one more year before you have to finally give in and get something newer. It’s syncing multiple carbs so you get that one perfect drive that makes all the other bad days worth it. It’s loving the car you have because you are emotionally attached to it.
It’s not some weird V5, brown motorcycle convertible. I enjoy my TourX as much as I enjoy my Ram 1500 as much as I enjoyed the Saab before those. Nothing will touch the Mustang I had nor the Daytona but each is Oppo in their own way.
Oppo is emotional attachment. Oppo is love.

FIFY.

Haha indeed. Although I feel like the Golf is the most oppo because there are exactly 1 million Golf owners on here.
![]() 09/15/2020 at 09:16 |

Sorry! That exception was from the original. I’m guessing your car will score high enough without it.

159 - 2014 Porsche Cayman S
168 - 1999 Mazda Miata
![]() 09/15/2020 at 09:18 |

It will be the most OPPO if you all still have them in 10 years. =)
Does your Golf have bottle-holders in the door? Because those count!

I think you can add 20 points to the engine for the M3 because it sits on a slant. I’m doing the same for my 128i, though I think the point allocation to that attribute might be a little heavy.

At the present time, my car should get me banned from Oppo (V8 Expedition). However, I drive it because my last car’s engine shit the bed and it wasn’t worth replacing the motor.

133 points for a ND1 Miata.
Pretty sure the ND2 would only be a few points higher because of being made more recently. It would be +10 for a higher redline and +5 for more power, but miss out on the +15 lower power Miata exception.
![]() 09/15/2020 at 09:25 |

RX-8: 136pts
STI: 97pts
My old Fiero would have been 178pts (only 2pts for having over 500hp was a killer, haha)

I’ve got 142 for my 128i and 95 for the WRX; I’m good with that. Gloss black interior trim cost me 10 points on both cars and I hate it equally in both because dust is harsh reality in my use. He penalty is fair though, I will probably end up replacing or wrapping it in the bimmer.
I know this has gone through many revisions but might I suggest 5 points for real good scoops as a compliment to the -5 for fakes?
Nice work on this. It’s as fun now as the jalopmeter was 10 years ago.

Too late for material changes now... and most cars with functional hood scoops are getting plenty of points elsewhere.

![]() 09/15/2020 at 09:32 |
|
Neat! My ‘99 TJ Wrangler comes in at 155. The doors are normally off but I do have doors so I didn’t take that 50 points. It’d be higher if it wasn’t black... it will be painted (probably poorly) or tub swapped to a better color at some point though!
No need to score the the other road going vehicles. The tractor though might score pretty high...
![]() 09/15/2020 at 09:32 |
|
I’ve got 175, but only by liberally interpreting zero doors, since I haven’t had a door on it in months.
![]() 09/15/2020 at 09:33 |

Completely understand. Plenty of the points are from the original.
The main point is for this to be fun, but also tried to make it fair-ish.
![]() 09/15/2020 at 09:33 |

its too late now but the 02 isn’t THE original engine, but it is another M10 of a different size. should that have counted? if so maybe that balances out the cupholder error for the vw

Ooh, that’s a good one... will have to remember it for the next version. Fair score for the E90, I think.

I really felt like the TT was more oppo than this, but coming in at 62. The 340 is coming in at 72 with a surprising amount of 0's. I like em both them and they fit that point range category well.

Perfect.

A disappointing 70.
A “that’s more like it” 119
Just for fun, 235!

Yes!

GS350 - 68
Sorento - 3

Nice - where do you think the TT maybe deserved more points?
(too late to edit now, just thinking of the next edition)

Sounds about right. =)

Yeah considering it’s a Grey, non turbo, Sedan.
Were it a wagon, or a 335, or RWD it would have scored better.
A 328i Xdrive is the Corolla or BMWs but still more fun than a Corolla

I was thinking another good score would be relating torque to horsepower. Like if you have 50% more torque (in ft-lbs) than HP +10.

Where do you put a 4 door hatch like a veloster?

E55 -102
R500 - 147
And the R still breaks the system! How does my wagon/van thing score 45 more points than a super sedan that’s more rare than an original NSX, Buick Grand National, or BMW i8? It was the suspension, hydropneumatic, but also with aftermarket (my own) lift.
Actually I still think both of my cars aren’t well represented by this. R maybe a bit too high, E too low. I mean people who don’t know or haven’t experienced one don’t really understand the E55. It was faster than a 911 and Corvette from the same year, but still a luxury sedan. It’s an incredibly analog-feeling car, unlike any other Benz after it. Remarkably simple and notoriously reliable (unless you ask people on the internet who’ve never sat in one) while managing to be one of the fastest cars available at the time outside of things that probably would’ve been categorized as super- (if not hyper- ) cars.
All that being said I have no suggestions to improve the formula further. This was fun, and I love both my cars. Thanks for putting in all that effort!

True, honestly I don’t need more than the 02. 10 year old me is just like:

Technically in the family, but I’m doing all the work on it.

My G olf comes in at a lowly 29 points, but it makes sense, because despite the US not liking hatchbacks, it is actually pretty practical.

Not a wagon - guess I should make that clear.
Rounding up? LOL
Nice score.

Oh, I like mine, too, but increased weight and
higher center of gravity, less room for helmet, and likely issues down the road makes it deserve the deduction.

Meh, those feel like track concerns, and we are tolerant of reduced performance for more fun in other places!

Glad the R got the weirdness points it clearly deserves.
Both good scores, not sure how to give the E55 20 more points without also inflating a bunch of other car’s scores.
You’re welcome, and thanks for all the input the last few days!

My 2020 GT350 racked up 152 points. The fake exhaust tips set it back 10 points, and only 2 points for 526 horsepower (I’m not rich!)... *sad trombone* Was hoping the flat-plane crank woulda bumped it up a little more lol.
The rest of my wife and I’s fleet is pretty generic so no point in findin g their scores, although my motorcycles may do well (two Moto Guzzis). Might have to tally them up later.

4-doors: 0 points. If you have an E39 M5 (
or any RWD, manual, V8 sedan
),— you get a
gold star
for stealth.
If a 3-door hatch, 7 points for weirdness.
=)

Haha - while I didn’t open the roof this morning, I did enjoy my drive windows down with seat heater on.

Nice! Flat-plane crank will be a good addition for the next iteration.

I pretty much always have mine open when it’s above 50 and not raining. And I’ll definitely crank up the seat heater before I close anything (and the the roof is last).

Ok yeah my old John Deere comes in at 240!
However the wife’s CrossTrek is at 22 only because I don’t consider it a crossover... it’s a damn Impreza with a lift kit, not a car pretending to be an SUV but I could be off on that. In which case I think it scores a 7. Our S uburban comes in at 80.
Thanks for putting this together! Great way to kill my productivity at work this morning. Oops!

I would tally the Ram but I have two salt life stickers, so yeah.........not worth the effort.
