Down at the park. I could still smell the paint, I kid you not. Gorgeous in and out, and had a rumbly V8.
But only 2 pedals - sad trombone.wav

Womp womp womp. Cut fenders too.

Exposed fasteners on there too.

Are you talking about the Merc?

Lol the Merc also has a rumbly V8 and 2 pedals, but you can't smell fresh paint and the interior has masks and various kid-related detritus scattered throughout (It's mine)

At least they kinda look like period correct fiberglass instead of "rugged" black plastic like I usually see.

You’re right. I didn’t mind them, though I’m not a fan of exposed fasteners.

It’s amazing how many Broncos have been restored in the last few years, I see them all over now and I didn’t before.

15 years ago, my partner and I pulled into a Crappy Tire on a sunny Sunday. Smack dab, facing the front doors (like your pic) was a classic orange Bronco with an empty space next to it. The paint and white wheels with narrow knobby tires screamed original. An 8.5/10. I couldn’t even get out of the car, I looked and looked and I’m sure I made comments like “Holy shit”.
Went in and got my plugs and wires or whatever. Didn’t think about it the whole time. When I came out of the store to my surprise it was still there. It was perfect. “Fuck me”.
I finally managed to get into my car and not 30 seconds later the owners emerged from the store. An elderly couple, he was 80 if he was a day, and if she didn’t have a cane, I’d be shocked. I can still see them open the doors while my partner said, “
You should go say something
...” I was already thinking it. I had $7000 (not burning a hole, but for no use). I may have even put my hand on the door handle briefly before deciding against it. Is happened so quick. I couldn’t do it.
Even though I’ve not spoken to the owners, to this day every time I hear the word Bronco, I kick myself.

Yeah, but if anything can get away with them a fiberglass fender flares on a Bronco isn't a bad shout. The typical black plastic ones really make me question the direction of the build.

Agree. I noticed the flares, mainly due to the fasteners. If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t have thought twice about it.
I like the build, just would have wanted a manual personally.

They were GONE around here for 20 years. Now they’re popping up all over. This is at least the third I’ve seen in the last few weeks - and a shout out to the dipshit in a blue one lifted quite a bit higher than this one who passed me doing 85 on I55 a week ago.

All the rich young hipsters have a Land Cruiser or Bronco around here. The ones who don’t want a classic have 4Runners with a million dollars of overland stuff bolted to them.

When I was a kid (like 1975) the neighbor across the street ran a gas station, and dailied one like you describe, only red with a white roof, and a plow in winter. Bone stock, even had the wheel covers that seemed to be the same as on a 66 Galaxie. It was cool even then.

That is a good reasoned take. While you're there, give it back the skirted fenders.

I forgot about those! Guessing 98% of the Broncos left have had them cut.

Yes it is shockingly rare to find one with them intact.

I'm sure all lifted to the moon. If I had one it would be stock ride height and those skinny tires and wheelcovers.

My dad has had a white over red Bronco on the small tires, since the 70's. It even has 1970s beer cans stuffed under the bench seat. My dad is in CO a lot. It’s up in Montana, I think my Aunt’s boyfriend drives it a few times a month, he was a mechanic in the Navy so he keeps everything working . They have a few Land Cruisers too.

Hmm that's exactly what my neighbor had in the mid 70s. His name isn't Voltl is it?

Not even close!
