I don’t see how this helps.

And can someone help me out? How much was the dealer service for a gallon of gas and diagnosis? I can’t figure it out.

Q: So where does a pile of shavings like usually come from?

A: Usually a larger piece of metal.

1) It doesn’t help, they’ re doing it wrong.

2) It doesn’t say, but I know the shop I use charges a minimum 1 hour for diagnosis, so like $120 flushed.

Yeah that's pretty expensive for running out of fuel.

Libertyville VW overtightened my tires once. Went to put my snows on, Couldn’t loosen it with my tire iron on a jack stand and a big pipe,  Had to take it back. Last time I let them touch my tires.

I had the same questions for both.

F or the wheel because I assumed they knew what they were doing. Then I realized that they did not.

I think they posted the second one because it was stupid customer problem made more ridiculous placed in a modern computer system. Someone in the comments said they would’ve charged 1 hr shop time at $135 and $ 8 for the gallon of gas.

The first time I went to change my over to my snow tires I could not get the wheels off the hubs. I took it to Walmart and let them deal with it. 40 bucks later my winters were on

I’ve fallen victim to far too many overtightened things from shops in my relatively short career driving.

Yeah, like, lopping off the outside of rim just makes it harder to get the lug nuts off. That’s simply not how you do it.

Yep, Libery VW on Milwaukee ave. They did at least retorque them without question but the service writer seemed unconcerned about it.

That’s a bummer. At least I do my own rotations since I don’t drive enough between summer and winter tire swaps to need to rotate again. The Gurnee dealer is an even bigger dumpster so...

My guess would be so that they have access to zip off the other side of the wheel studs on the hub and remove them . T he lugs and studs are so fubar  they won’t ever come apart.

That screenshot doesn’t show pricing, but the OP who shared it commented that “ 1 hour diag at my shop would have cost the lady $135, plus like another $8 for the one gallon.” Many shops do charge a minimum of one hour labor, plus a “shop supplies” charge , so it’s entirely possible that she may have got stuck with a $143 bill. Or maybe they cut her a goodwill deal; tha t happens too sometimes .

That someone was the OP, so yeah it’s a pretty good guess. Unless the shop decide to just goodwill it for her... who knows.

Yeah that would be a reasonable use for that. I once got “goodwilled” labor on a thermostat that just happened to go out as I left my mechanic. Obviously some shops are more lenient to their customers than others.

Me too, the funny thing was I only let them do it because it was free with one of the original included oil changes.

And actually I should say the other ridiculous repairs required to my miserable 2013 GTI (turbo (warranty) intake manifold, (barely in warranty) ) were done fine as far as I know

I suppose that makes sense if it really was that bad. Since you wouldn’t really be able to use the wheel for anything attached to some lug nuts so just cut it off and make life easier. But then that would make getting the rubber off the wheel a lot harder.

I don’t think I’ll be making any drives to Illinois for tire rotations but it’s nice to know there are good places out there. While finding a good mechanic is hard, finding a good tire shop is even harder, plus the fact that it is rare for you to know for certain that the same people are working on your car.
