Sure, China doesn't allow you to have freedom of anything, and minorities get put in camps.

But, you can get an electric Buick wagon. Is it worth it? Probably not. Still cool though.

And up until a few years ago you could get a big comfy Holden-based Park Avenue. Probably the last old school Buick barge made. Pretty obvious why it wasn’t sold in North America, but it could’ve done well after the olds stop being able to buy the Grand Marquis en masse. Instead they just seem to buy Chrysler 300s now.

And there’s the GL8. Basically a dolled up Lumina APV/Trans Sport/Silhouette underneath. And yet it looks like this on the inside;

I can kinda understand why the Chinese like Buicks so much. They actually get some cool cars with the badge stuck to them. Maybe now that Opel is gone and GM becomes increasingly reliant on Chinese-developed platforms, we’ll see some more synergy between the Chinese and Western product lines? Like a super sketchy small town buffet, but with cars.

weird grill on that statto ;)

My take is that the Buick badge means little. It’s just GM making use of brands they own the rights too. Is it a big comfy Buick barge? Or is it a big comfy Holden made in Australia and rebadged in China?

Buicks are popular in China because of McLaughlin Buick. They were driven by the wealthy and empowered. Today they are still viewed as a aspirational luxury.

Also, you can still smoke pretty much everywhere (well, really, you can’t, but the laws aren’t at all enforced, so you can) . They do have some freedoms

The front of that “Velite 6" is very Toyota, and I don’t mean that in a good way.

China has plenty of freedom - for corrupt CCP members to escape with ill-gotten wealth and dump it in certain real estate markets.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

My rule is to ALWAYS avoid restaurants that claim to feature “Chinese and American Food”; I think that applies here, as well.

Doesn’t seem like a place where you want to roll the dice on those “unenforced rules”.

Eh, just throw some cash and premium liquor at the local party chairman, you’ll be fine.

As if smoking wasn’t already too expensive.

Supposedly it was before the nineties but we all know anything before 1990 didn’t happen and it’s all a fake facade put onto us by the government to make us think things like “Betamax” and “disco” and “brown” existed.

I remember my local video store having a B etamax section...there may have been a curtain involved. That was nothing compared to the Laserdisc section that came later though...
