Are you facepalming the league, the fans, or the players?
![]() 09/11/2020 at 14:36 |

Unclear - were the booing the moment of unity, or booing the Texans for not being on the field for the anthem?

I like pickup truck and chicken wings too, but seriously, what the fuck is wrong with people?

Does it make a difference?

Good question. And I can’t believe people were openly booing the concept of unity.

Ah the intersection of privately owned for-profit entertainment entities, nationalism, and the average rube in the stands.

When KU hosted Mizzou in basketball they would play this clip as well as this one from The Outlaw Josey Wales
When we played in ‘08, after the Orange Bowl win and on the way to the championship, I have genuinely never heard an arena louder than Allen Fieldhouse after these.

The former seems far worse.

Why would he facepalm the players?

Is this the Kansas that lost to Coastal Carolina?

Can the average rube even afford NFL tickets? Looks like upper deck tickets for the Chiefs start at ~ $150/seat (lower deck from $240) .

I’d argue they’re both very bad. The latter is actively discouraging others from exercising their constitutional rights. They’re booing those opposing mindless nationalism, and that’s a huge cultural issue.
I’m not trying to lessen the weight of booing unity, which, obviously is also super fucked up.

That whole “refusing to play games for five minutes until they realized they wouldn’t be paid” thing was pretty facepalm worthy. Their inability to actually attend any of these rallies is pretty good too.
The fans, well all of a sudden they care about player behavior.
The League, trying to dance around racism issues for years while doing nothing, with this landing squarely in their lap.
And everyone else, for forgetting that this is a game and escapism at best. I wouldn’t pay for over political messages in my videogames or movies, or books. W hy would anyone expect football fans to react well?
Everyone is always worthy of some criticism.

I think people are booing the inclusion of politics in their sportsball
![]() 09/11/2020 at 15:36 |

Yeah, they’re both bad.

Surprisingly , plenty of rubes are able to bring in a little money. Almost every brodozer proves it.

The fans and the league. Why would I facepalm the players when they are already someone else's pawns?
![]() 09/11/2020 at 15:46 |

They were booing the show of unity
![]() 09/11/2020 at 15:48 |

Yeah, but are they average rubes? Or are we looking at the upper class of rubes?
![]() 09/11/2020 at 15:48 |

The average rube at a pro sports event might be more fortunate than the average rube in general, but rubes are rubes :)
![]() 09/11/2020 at 15:48 |

Exactly. It’s like the fans in the stadium were all from the Westbo ro Baptist Church!

Ouch.

Remember, sports figures should stick to sports and not voice an opinion about politics.
But if the spoiled worthless devilspawn of a political figure mouths off about politics, they have a voice we need to hear.

A slightly different take: 2020 has been a shit year. For everyone. Sports are something that we usually turn to for an escape. Having to sit through a reminder of the outside world just sucks. I understand that it’s kind of the point of activism, but sweet jesus, feel the room. Your fans are crammed into 1 bedroom apartments, not multi-million dollar mansions. These athletes have jobs, money, and lives that most people watching can’t even relate to. These sports protests are the height of privilege .
![]() 09/11/2020 at 16:03 |

Maybe. They may also be tired of having it thrown in their faces or suspicious of what might be viewed as the NFL’s attempt at virtue signaling.

PREACH! Thank you for writing this!

And your take is at the very least shortsighted. If sports is your escape from life, then you are a user and abuser just to prop yourself up. Sports are a shared joy of competition, athleticism, and community. If you need a coping mechanism, you have your family, friends, etc. Professional sports have the added benefit of entertainment ...for a fee. Why would you assume they are their for the sole purpose of washing away society’s ills?
That’s OUR job.
“These sports protests are the height of privilege.”
Like I said to My bird IS the word, the players are just someone else’s pawns. Their financial achievements shouldn’t be used as an excuse [whataboutism?] to vent and place blame on their shoulders. They don’t have it as easy as one would think:

When these entertainers start honoring first responders and such with this kind of pomp instead of rapists and thugs, I’ll quit sneering at them. They are not essential. Cops, docs, nurses, EMT, tr uckers are.

This isn’t a good take. THIS IS A GREAT TAKE!

Some of their fans also get harassed and murdered by police.

L ook, I’m just telling you why people feel the way they do and responded the way that they did. It’s how it is.

That attempt at comedy is so woke that it asphyxiated in it’s own wokeness.
![]() 09/11/2020 at 22:04 |

Oh for sure. You did mention privilege in regards to high earners, so I award you five woke points.

We’ve never played Coastal Carolina in basketball that I can remember.
Kansas doesn’t have a football team, idk what you’re talking about.
Real talk: A few years ago I was at a Papa Murphy’s picking up a pizza. I was wearing a KU hoodie. Another customer was all dressed up in Sooner gear, and he turns to me and goes ‘did ya’ll play today?’. I looked at him sideways and genuinely thought and whispered ‘basketball season hasn’t started yet’. It took a few seconds before I remembered that college football exists and I exclaimed “Oh! Football! Yeah I have no idea”

All indoor events like basketball are banned though
