Nothing suspicious is going on! My theory about the Rich Energy guy is he grew the beard so he could shave it and his head and be unrecognizable if he had to flee.

I’m skeptical. After the Fiat debacle? I think GM does Due Diligence pretty well.

Or, GM figured out he had nothing and took full advantage of Nikola for a quick way to commercialize their hydrogen fuel cell tech (which does exist and work). Problem is Nikola has to keep their part of the deal and develop the refueling infrastructure.
Here’s the actual contract:
Nikola is paying GM up to $700 million for development and manufacturing costs. They also have two vehicles planned, so I assume an SUV along with the Badger pickup. Or maybe a delivery van?
All of GM’s costs are covered, and they get guaranteed profit on all of that, no matter how expensive. The only risk to them is that the first $2B is in Nikola stock, which may fluctuate. GM retains all of the IP rights.
GM gets exclusive rights as the fuel cell supplier globally, except for Europe. Previously Nikola was sourcing their fuel cell from Bosch / PowerCell so they have now lost out big time. At least they still get Europe.
Also count the regulatory credits and federal tax incentives for Badger buyers.

Their CEO, just like a lot of these startups, is a snake oil salesman and is doing it for personal gain. Just like Elizabeth Holmes from Theranos and the Wework dude. I lost all respect for this company and guy w hen they took money that was supposed to help small businesses and take it for themselves. Our entire economy is so f’ d up when you have companies lying and blatantly defrauding people allowed to be on the stock market. But of course our “capitalism “ allows this even though there is no longer any real capitalism left in our economy. Our entire society is a welfare state since no individual or business can survive without government support.

Actually, they also put a disclaimer near the top, right after the initial bullet points and before the discussion : “ Initial Disclosure: After extensive research, we have taken a short position in shares of Nikola Corp. This report represents our opinion, and we encourage every reader to do their own due diligence. Please see our full disclaimer at the bottom of the report. ”
