Maseratis are fat, heavy, ugly and always a bit shit and owned by image conscious old white men even more than Ferraris are and they’re one of those rare companies like GM where people talk about their crippling quality control issues in terms of specific eras but there are no eras where it was acceptable.
I’m not sure there’s ever really been a good Maserati or even one that I like. Except the MC12 of course but that hardly exists and hardly counts.
But this is a handsome car. It’s hard to find fault with even if it doesn’t quite set the world on fire like some of the
new Astons.

Are you me? Because I pretty much feel the same way about this car.

The MC12 is an awesome car, but it’s about as much of
a Maserati as the
Cygnet was an Aston Martin.

It’s a beauty.

Yeah I’ve never been a Maserati fan either. They’ve always seemed overpriced for vehicles with outdated tech and less performance.
Soul? yeah Passion? sure. Worth it? Uh no.
Sadly, not even the new car moves the needle for me. It seems like too little, too late. It doesn’t look better or outperform anything else for the price.

It’s not wrong.
But it isn’t particularly right.
As much of a fan of mid-engined cars as I am... I would so easily buy a Ferrari Roma over this car, on looks alone.
Not even other people’s looks... just based on which one I would turn around and walk backwards away from when I park it... just to get another last look.
And I highly doubt the driving experience difference would significantly circumvent the aesthetics.

It’s handsome, I especially like the derriere. I don’t know what Maserati is thinking when it comes to wheel design, though, these just don’t look good at all. Fortunately a very easy fix.

I’d like one of these with an engine swap.

Back of it looks like a beefed up Stinger

I love Maseratis. They make cars like the gran tourismo and cabrio with a gorgeous styling no one else had. You can get the Ferrari engine without the ugly and overwrought styling of most modern Ferraris and their hideous interiors. The Quattroporte is an Italian style executive sedan that sets itself apart from the usual MB etc. The Ghibli is good looking, practical, Italian style for every day driving.

Maserati touts on their website that it’s their “first ever supercar”
The friggin’ ENZO-based MC12: *Italian hands* “Am I a joke to you?”

I love the tank though, I grew up in Manoa and this guy had a brown one. I had no idea what it was back then. I looked in it one time, it’s like a living room in there. I’d just LS swap it and be done with the mess they probably are.

I would counter that the Gran Turismo
was never that pretty and was always overweight, that the Quattroporte is poorly built and the Ghibli is even worse. I think they want to be as you describe, with Ferrari-ish sedans and such, but the execution is way below par.

It’s okay if you don’t agree, but I think the Gran Turismo is one of the prettiest cars of modern times, the QP and Ghibli are amongst the most handsome sedans of our generation.
