I know, I know. Don’t cheap out on tires. Thing is, when you live in the desert southwest, driving on roads that are typically well over 125 degrees, and the tires themselves are constantly getting beaten by the sun...yeah, tires never last more than two years here. (Maybe they do for trucks or something...I guess those tires are different.) I was pretty happy with the Falkens that came on the car, but it’s come time to replace them. I can get Ecstas for...quite a bit cheaper. I remember Kuhmo Ecstas being talked about in Sport Compact Car magazine ( back when that still existed) as a decent tire, especially compared to pricier brands. Then again, that was over a decade ago. Does Kuhmo still make decent rubber, or do I need to stick with Falkens, bare minimum? What say you, internet experts?

I got Ecstas on my Audi S4 after finding out how much it cost to replace the Pilot Sports. No, not nearly as good but close enough for street use.

Summer tires don't handle lower temps well. Doesn't it get cold in desserts sometimes? (I don't actually know)

I’ve recommended Khomos on my trailer for 10 years, been great. Also recommended them for my sister’s Avalon and she liked them great. Best way to tell if their are any good is go to tire rack.com and see comments.

It depends where. I did assume that OP doesn’
t get cold winter
because of the 125-degree shit,. but of course I can
be wrong

I’ve ran my re71 when it was 30F after the car was sitting outside all night...it was fine. I think it’ll be even better with a less aggressive summer tire.

I’ve bought Kumhos for several vehicles and never had anything to complain about.

El Paso routinely dips into the 20's and 30's overnight in the winter. The high desert has 20-30 degree day/night temperature swings year round, which is another way of saying elevation matters a lot. We also get a few inches of snow once or twice a winter, too.

We get random snap freezes. For like, one random week in January or February, it’ll be 30 degrees. Then everyone’s water pipes freeze, then burst , and we’ll go on water restrictions because all of our reservoirs get drained.
No one shower for a week!

Falkens generally suck. If you really have to go cheap, kumhos are a great option. I'd take kumhos over hankooks even.

I’d agree with the most here. Kuhmos over the Falkens. I’m partial to Pirellis if you can find them on sale. My P7s have been a phenomenal tire on the van.
