Is this how you live blog on Oppo?

30 miles into a 140 mile drive. Stop number 1 Sommers Beach along Flathead Lake.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Second stop is Sacagawea Park in Polson Montana.

Stop 3 at Wairfair State Park in Bigfork Montana. Zoidberg bait. I feel more kindred to this Yaris than I have to any other car I’ve seen today.

Amazingly Montana is not on fire for once. It’s every state west of us that is having the terrible fires this year.

Man - Montana is so beautiful.  I haven’t been there in 2 years, I was supposed to go back this Summer for a project but all travel has been canceled so I just had to spend a week on conference calls with people in Montana which isn’t nearly as nice as working there during the day and exploring every afternoon and evening.

Looks like fun. I haven’t driven really far in the Z for a couple reasons, one is I feel like it still has a small vibration at 65 or so on a highway. I think we have driven 120 miles in a day through the wine country and coast, that seems likely. I always drive back roads around here, my wife would never want to drive far in it anyway, the dog either. Maybe it’s just because it’s old and it makes noises, I think I’m going to get my roll of sound mat out and actually try that out in the car when the air gets better. That might make the ride a bit better.

I’ve got some vibration at 70-75 mph and it feels like driveline. It’s not that bad but it would be a long day if I was cruising at 80 for hours on end. And then the window frames start to such out around 75 so the most comfortable speed is about 60-70.

Also clocked 30 mpg!

Half the cars on the road are still out of staters.

I bet! I barely had enough self control to keep me here instead of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.

Yeah it’s around 60-75 or so, we have checked everything, the wheels were changed even. All the stuff under there is new. Yeah getting up to a high speed on the highway gets a little uncomfortable, it’s fun to gun it through hills and tunnels near here for short bursts. If I had to drive it to LA it would be down the coast, which could be fun, not down I-5. They do get good mileage, even with my triple carbs I flog it and it’s fine, I do have a 5 speed from a later Z, do you have a four, I forget?

My car is a 4 speed. With the proper size  tires it’s around 3500 rpm at 80 mph so it is actually not bad for cruising, but the gap between 2nd and third is huge. That’s the main issue with the 4 speed.

Yeah that’s true, I only drive mine with a four on the highway from Santa Cruz where I bought it . After that the engine was rebuilt and my friend had a new 5 so we swapped it. It calms way down in 5th on the highway, I don’t use 5th a lot, just the short sprints on 101 when I get to the end of a coastal road and it’s the fastest way home . I’m curious about how my truck is going to be, it’s a four speed but first is a granny so it’s really a three. I swapped the gears to get to 55-60 so I can’t go by any of the original information.

The truck is going to be slow but I bet it will be fun to drive.

I drove it on some roads behind my friend’s shop pre gear swap, it’s not that slow on local roads. I’m just nervous about tricky gear changes with unsynced down shifts. I will be planning where I go with it very carefully early on I think.

I guess the bay bridge is out then. Only place I’ve ever gotten a leg cramp.
