So I’ve been having a lot of visor fog problems. I have sinus issues so breathing just out of my nose gets a bit uncomfortable, which is bad news when it’s 35 degrees outside and you’re in a motorcycle helmet.

I looked into many anti fog gadgets, and solutions. From rub on treatments, to films, to a wacky mouth piece that Directs your breath down out of the helmet. I like to talk to myself so that’s a no go.

Then there’s Pinlocks which my helmet is set up for. It’s an insert that clips into a couple pegs on your visor, creating a dual pane visor like a snowmobile helmet. I did buy one of these, and a yellow visor for rainy days.

But I also wanted to get a new clear visor because mine is already quite abit scratched up. Then I remembered something my MSF instructor said about motorcycle helmets. That they are Usually the same shell. Just a different visor, and a more insulation. A 5 second search on EBay and I found the snowmobile visor for my helmet. it cost about as much as the pinlock insert did.

Once I get them both I’ll try them out and see whether the pinlock works as well as the snowmobile helmet. It does seem like it’ll inhibitor you field of vision a bit less.

I have run Pinlocks for both helmets (and 3 visors) I’ve owned and 3 years. It’s helped immensely but I found some visors still fogged a little bit for me at the lights when cold but not as much or quickly.

Most of the time I keep the visor down at lights unless it’s a long timed and I need that extra ventilation to clear it’s or very hot. No vision problems as long as you install with the inside visor clean and dry. Also check the insert is clean too, I got one that was splotchy for some reason and I had to clean it before install. It shouldn’t disturb your vision.

I have ProtecTint transition for both clear visors for riding dark and also dawn/dusk transitions. I t’s a great for the golden hour transitions of low sun and darkness, where you want a tint because your staring right at the low sun and then you don’t because everything goes dark (and vice versa for dawn).

T he 120 Clear on the medium dark shield for the RPHA-11 Pro.

A transition tint sound like BBC a great idea. I’m horrible at having sunglasses as I almost  never wear them during the day, just around dusk.

Some helmets have the whole visor as transition (Shoei or Arai, I can’t remember). It’s awesome if you never want to swap between clear and tinted for different light or you have to constantly . You just ride and it adjusts. The Pinlock is a tad goofy because just the insert tints but if you’ re for function rather than style it works great.
