Kinja'd!!!

Runs and drives but doesn’t fit in many Australian garages

1 5 plus feet of American boat...Ford Galaxie 500 for the uninitiated.

Pulled from a Queensland shed in pieces , transported south, reassembled and made driveable. Now on the market, ready for full restoration.

I believe this is a 70 LTD, at least for the USDM.  The hidden headlights are an excellent touch.

I was going to be skeptical of the value of the 4-door but then I remembered that people on your side of the world don’t resemble your avatar photo and do realize a 4-door can be just as much fun

The same people who bitch about a classic car having 4 doors are invariably  the same people who won’t buy anything other than a 5-door crossover vehicle as their daily driver.

RHD I assume? That's a fun find. Was it sold there new or is it a great market import that was converted to RHD? I don't know how things work down there with commonality between USDM and ADM (AUDM?).

Third generation Galaxies were apparently   assembled at Ford’s old and long gone Homebush assembly plant in Sydney in the latter half of the 19 60s for local consumption. However, I suspect that this is a fourth generation 1969 or 1970 model so this would then have been fully imported and locally converted by Ford in Melbourne.

We will happily hoon any kind of yacht...no matter how many doors it has. No-one is going to pretend it's a sportscar even if it only has two doors...

Makes it more interesting. You say they were likely imported and converted to be sold new by Ford dealers?

This one? Almost certainly.

I’ve always wondered how they do it as the steering rack would very much not fit any other way besides the way it was designed to go in. And recreating the dashboard but mirrored? There’s just so many tiny things needed.

We have a long and storied experience at this sort of shenanigans that continues to this day... buggered if I know why...but, yeah.

I mean...Fiero's were sold here with Volvo steering racks!

You’ve got to get creative when the car never designed with you guys in mind. And wait, I thought Fieros weren’t ever sold there.

Fiero’s were never sold here by GM or Holden. A third party company was responsible. Such companies still exist here which is why we can source RHD converted Toyota Tundra if we wanted to...

People talk about moving mountains as if it’s a big deal. But you’re a pro. To you, it’s simply part of your daily routine. We understand. Nothing throws you for a loop.

You simply move through so-called obstacles with ease. Pushing yourself further— always looking for solutions. As well as new mountains to conquer.

Discover the heavy-duty truck for you—the GMC Sierra HD.

Huh, I kinda figured people buying $ 160,000 status symbols might not pretend to do actual work with them down there but I was wrong. It’s honestly quite amusing to see these with the steering wheel on the wrong dang side. Some of them look simpler than others to swap just from a trim panel perspective. I wonder if the conversion tends to result in more direct and less assisted steering or if it varies from factory specs.

Frankly...these are just a status symbol for the susceptible Baby Boomer with a big caravan. Or a horse trailer. The rest of us use a much cheaper cab over truck.

The steering conversion can be a bit nuts. Some apparently use some weird chain drive to get the steering rack to work in its original position but the transition to electric steering in some vehicles makes the overall conversion less of an issue.

They do actually make sense in their home market but they certainly lose whatever value vs capability proposition they have once you get to expensive steering conversions.

Chain drive sounds really sketchy. I wonder how often steering conversions fail due to poor workmanship? I imagine it is a fairly rare occurrence but I’m sure it has happened.
