This 1974 Yamaha DT175 Enduro followed me home for $120. It does not run. In this video, I try to figure out why. This is, notably, the first project I’ve bought with YouTube income. Wild.

These are soooo cool. I want one, but I don’t have a spot to keep a bike. Some day.

Had one of these once, got it for free and lost $150 on it. It needed new rings and no one makes any for these from what I could find, especially over sized ones . The only ones I found were NOS for like $250. It still would have needed a ton of work/parts so I dumped it at a loss. Hopefully your’s works out  better!

Wow, so it had super low compression?

Basically none, maybe 50-60 psi? I t had been sitting for a while before I got it and the rings were froze up, in my trying to un stick them I pried a little too hard and busted one. I did find some rings* off newer model DT175s with the same bore which seemed to fit good , but didn’t help with the compression.

Gonna toot my own horn though because I did get it to run before I sold it. It had to be h eld at WOT and kicked like a mad man but it did fire and rev up, as soon as you dropped the throttle though it died.

Pretty sure I’ve still got the coils for the lighting system, if you happen to need them let me know.

*China piston kits actually, I used the rings and tossed the pistons since they were too different

That’s awesome. Good buy, and awesome that you bought it with YouTube money. Now you’re making your money make money!

These are what I was looking for before o bought my xt200. A choice made mostly by convenience.

I have good luck with wiseco sleeves. Send the piston, cylinder and the new parts to the machine shop.

Probably not the correct example. Two strokes  are really easy to deal with.
