I can’t seem to get rid of the Privacy Notice. It comes up every single time I open up a post or refresh the main page.

Have a photo of Jaguar guys fetching some wheels for your time.

I have not seen it, and if you’re logged in on the front page this isn’t likely the problem, but it smells like a cross-site cookie problem.

Some (all?) browsers allow you to disable cookies shared between domains, so a kinja.com server can’t set a cookie that jalopnik.com would be able to read. I have that disabled on my mobile devices so I can be logged in while reading the FP, but enabled on my laptop so I cannot.

Anyway, I don’t think that’s the problem, but that’s what it feels like: your  acceptance of the privacy notice is being handled by a kinja.com server, so next time you visit Jalopnik the acceptance cookie isn’t available to it.

Huh weird, I disabled adblock, accepted the notice and now it seems to be gone. I could swear I previously did that and nothing happened.

I use the built in blocker Opera has (which seems to have been the root cause here)

Are you running a linux distro or do you just love Opera?

Nope, I’ve just been using it for years and it has been good enough to not consider switching.

I use Opera (have been for like 20 years, i remember when it was the only one doing tabs instead of opening a new window each time ) on both Windows and Linux but i don’t use it’s built-in adblocker but uBlock.

I have not seen the Privacy Notice running Firefox with a bunch of ad-blockers.

I get t he pop-up for “Do you want to subscribe to our newsletter” though.  It’s so irritating I leave the FP when that pops up.

When these are on for some reason I can’t comment...

Yeah ghostery does that every once in a while for me. I usually have to dig through the trackers to see which one is causing the issue, or I just pause it for a sec

Flipped it back on and all kinds of stuff is broken, including all the links and buttons to show more comments . It’s such a painfully broken site to begin with that I just drop back to letting my pihole deal with most of it.

Hmm, I will have to look at how I have it configured on windows. I’m rolling Solus Linux at the moment and installing ghostery gives me the same effect you describe.
