In two weeks, I’ll be hosting my inaugural “I’m going wandering and you’re welcome to join me” event.

Yesterday would have been a good day, actually, but then I wouldn’t have felt free to stop and check out a Cherokee XJ that might just make the cut.
Based on roads I drove yesterday, and more that I glimpsed, I’ve changed my plans for this month’s drive; instead of Cataract Falls area, I’m going to explore south of Paoli . Let me know at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! if you’re seriously considering coming along.

ICYMI Saturday night, the cleanest Tracker you’re ever going to see.

I’ll start with the vehicles. There was a car show underway that I skipped, sadly, and the few cars I caught roaming as it was breaking up I also missed taking photos of. But, still, there was plenty to see.
This party was continuing on a boat somewhere on Lake Monroe. Sad I wasn’t out there with them.
I promised atfsgeoff I’d shoot more trucks
Ford: 29k. Toyota: 39k. https://www.morgansautoinc.com/
It’s an auto, but the price is right and there’s an off-road shop down the road from it that could turn it into the vehicle I want (probably minus a transmission conversion, but you never know...)
This wasn’t southern Indiana, but it was brown and boxy so forgive me. Also sounded terribly obnoxious.

Paoli is a very photogenic town. A few years ago it lost its historic bridge to someone who couldn’t read and clearly shouldn’t have been driving a semi.
Oops!
Fortunately they’ve rebuilt and reopened.

Paoli’s courthouse, which overlooks the stricken/restored bridge.
I’m not sure how many markers celebrate both George Washington and Tecumseh. I need to spend some more time digging into this one.
Paoli’s town square still feels very much like old-time Indiana

Among my favorite t-shirts I don’t actually own is this one...
We need more good men.

I stopped at a farmhouse to buy some sweet corn. Turned out to be an Amish family.

And the rest.
It’s a shame that “motorcycle church” wasn’t on the Oppo scavenger hunt.
I couldn’t pass near a town named “Doolittle Mills” without visiting, could I? Oil Township has a population of 2500.
One corner of Doolittle Mills.
Trying to capture sunset here cost me a chance to capture it over Patoka Lake, but I’ll get it eventually.

Where’s that?

It’s the city of Batman , in the province of Batman in southeast Turkey !

W123 280E, the only gasser W123 sold on this side of the pond, MY 1977-81 only, I think.

I am sorely disappointed there’s no Batman statue there.

Meh, Auto. No, this is clean Auto. No, Meh Auto. No , this is clean Auto. No, Meh Auto. No, this is clean Auto. No, Meh Auto. No, this is clean Auto. No, Meh Auto. No, this is clean Auto. No, Meh Auto. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
Don’t worry, JJ. In my heart, I believe you will take the red pill and shock us all with a good buy before the end of the year

The driver was old enough that it might be a one-owner car.

I frustrate myself with my indecision. I simply can’t decide whether it’s worth waiting for the perfect XJ when it seems unlikely that such a thing exists and would be affordable.
So, then, might as well get a convenient one that checks most of my boxes and get on with my life. It’d especially be nice to do so before winter gets here so I can give my LJ a rest during the months where I’m not going to be taking the top off anyway.
Bidding hasn’t changed on this one yet, though... oi.

That Ford convertible: do you get a discount because Dukes of Haz ard rims?
That Jeep: provenance is suspect because wheels don’t match. What other neglectful horrors has this vehicle been subjected to?
![]() 09/06/2020 at 14:13 |

No, but there was a statue of General Lee, which has been toppled.

...really?
Found this interesting: https://legalette.wordpress.com/2008/11/14/batman-lawsuit/
Residents of Batman can’t open a business with Batman in the name, thanks to DC.

It’s funny: I never, ever see wheels. Complete blind spot to me.

Jk. But I thought it might start a nice argument.
DC is a four-letter word.

Well, I know what you’ll being doing from 9:30 to 11 tonight!!!
If you don’t get it, accept that “ as long as it ticks off most boxes” is the correct way to go, especially when you’re not rich. That’s how I ended up with my ‘14 Jetta TDI.
I wanted a wagon, but the ‘15's Golf Sportwagens were too expensive and the ‘14 and older Jetta Sportwagens didn’t have the features I was looking for. I wanted a manual, but my big feet in work boots made it a no go. Got lucky on the Brown that I ended up with and in doing so, ticked off 2 of 4 qualifiers for the ultimate Oppo vehicle!
And keep this in mind: if you buy the one close enough to your liking now, come next spring you may be able to flip it/trade it for the one that ticks all your boxes!!!
Because regardless of the economy, certain Keeps maintain their value.

I really hope you get that one as it looks perfect for what you want. It really looks great in the photos but then again no PPI makes it harder.

Honestly haven’t decided whether I’m going to bid. It’ll be at least twice the cost, including shipping, of what something local would be.
![]() 09/06/2020 at 15:34 |
|
Yeah but it is in so much better condition than the local ones you’ve shown us. You could probably still flip it for profit if it was too much because none of the ones you’ve shown us are even close.
![]() 09/06/2020 at 15:39 |

Well, the poorly-replaced floors and remaining rust have me worried. The local one I found yesterday has one small spot on the driver’s side rocker panels, or at least that’s all I spotted.
One problem is that I don’t flip cars. I drive them until they die, mostly; only once in my life have I sold a car, and that was the Civic I traded in for my Jeep. Dealing with Craigslist buyers is very, very low on my life goals list.
![]() 09/06/2020 at 16:00 |

Fair, but harsh. I know less than you about the process of selling a car as I have never done so and only bought a car once so IDK.

Besides, boredalways discovered this one that’s currently rocking my world.

Too bad it is on the other side of the country from you. Could be a fly-in though.
![]() 09/06/2020 at 16:16 |

Almost certainly just ship it back. Given how much I like to explore, it’d take me 2 weeks to drive back if I flew out there.

I was texting with my Brother-in-law that lives in Bozeman today. . .

Huh, small world.
Apparently someone is looking at it right now, so there’s a good chance it’ll be sold soon. Disappointing, it’s effectively exactly how I’d want to build one of my own, except dramatically cheaper since I wouldn’t have to pay someone else to do it.

5 minutes to go and I have the winning bid. Not going to up it so probably won’t win.
The one from Montana is spoken for, barring something odd happening.

Still no luck, huh? You'll get one eventually. What was the final price on that ebay find?
![]() 09/06/2020 at 23:18 |

3500. If it weren’t for the need to redo the floor panels e ntirely I’d have thought about going that high.

I didn't see that in the photos there. Maybe makes it a little less appealing.
