It’s sad that people think this way and live their lives so dissatisfied with their own situation that they write songs about it. Nobody is perfect, but we all strive for perfect moments. Some people work hard to display the illusion of a perfect life, but behind the veneer is something rotten. Those are the saddest of all because they will never achieve the satisfaction of a perfect moment. There will always be something that “ruins” the impossibly perfect scenario.

I did a little digging to better understand what the songwriter (Chip Taylor) was thinking when he wrote it. He wrote it for prisoners. People in prison often have that FU mindset and it holds them back in life. My brother had it. He couldn’t see the positive side of anything and could bring himself to see that his own choices were keeping him from having a “perfect” life. Instead of focusing on the good things he had in life, he only focused on the bad. That’s the kind of people that have the FU attitude and never seem to find happiness even though the opportunity to be happy is right in front of them.
