Chevy Chase has one schtick, just a standard character that he plays in everything. If a script is written around that, he can be very funny, if he's shoehorned into something where he doesn't belong, he's not. He is at least a much better actor than he is a talk show host.

I’d say he’s a much worse talk show host than he is an actor.

I also recently read that he’s got a reputation as an awkward , racist-sounding jerk.
