Full disclosure: I grew up a couple hours from St. Louis, and am now craving Imo’s. I can pass on the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, but I’d eat a 1.5 " square piece if it was presented to me (any more than that is instant diabetes).

Better than that is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Seriously, they’re amazing.

I think the best way to judge Imo’s is not contrasted with “normal” pizza, but just as its own separate, strange thing. Like, if you think you’re taking a drink of milk and get orange juice instead? That’s bad! If you’re thinking about taking a bite of normal pizza and get a mouthful of provel instead, I could see that being a shock.

I don’t care much for St Louis pizza, though Fortel’s is OK . I couldn’t stomach Imo’s until somebody ordered it from one of the older locations and knew what to ask for (key point: mozarella cheese) . I do like toasted ravioli. I could take or leave the gooey butter cake.

In the past I compare d some of the bad St Louis pizza I tried to a saltine cracker topped with ketchup and E asy C heese.

I’m not sure if anyone’s opposed to toasted ravioli (with meat inside, as God intended).

LOL - there’s a place called Arris’ where I’m from that does it much better.

In Wisconsin they have the same basic thing as St. Louis pizza, but with actual cheese instead of provel. Fun fact: wikipedia says most provel is made in Wisconsin but “primarily for the St. Louis market.” My wife who grew up in WI gets very nostalgic for a circular pizza cut into squares.

Oddly enough, here in Maryland, there’s a local style of rectangular pizza, that’s also cut into squares. It’s usually called Maryland style pizza, but is really more accurately Maryland suburbs of DC pizza. I don’t think it’s even in the rest of the state. I t’s a thin-crust pizza cooked in rectangular cookie sheets where the crust goes up the sides of the cookie sheet.

Kinja'd!!!

So, when she’s feeling nostalgic for some pizza cut into squares, it scratches her particular itch.

I think it depends on the Arris’ location. I’ve had some that was really good, but the one in Springfield MO was really greasy the last few times I went there. Which of course defeats the purpose of thin crust pizza, which should be CRISPY! I liked Imo’s back in college but I haven’t had it in years. The provel was fine with me, but it definitely can’t be approached as ‘normal’ pizza.

I love  toasted ravioli but it definitely needs to have meat, not cheese.  I only discovered gooey butter cake this year.  I would eat it every day given the chance.   For about a week, at which point I’d have a coronary.  :)

There’s a chain called Jet’s here, apparently locations in 19 states , that offers “Eight corner pizza”, which is rectangular but all 8 slices are corner pieces, making them easier to pick up and eat. I’m a big fan.

Hey I didn’t say Maryland suburbs of DC style pizza was actually good now did I?

DC is not exactly a hotbed of great pizza. I actually had more places that I thought were excellent back when I lived in Madison, WI.

My favorite place near me is this sorta-NY style place called Giuseppi’s, but they go crazy on the cheese and toppings where the middle part of the slices can get a little too soggy and floppy. It’s always better crisped up in a skillet (or if you’re eating by-the-slice in the restaurant, where they have the various pizzas hanging out at the counter and throw your slices back in the oven for a couple minutes to warm them back up).

I encountered Jet’s when I lived in Madison, WI. They’re more common in the Milwaukee area but they opened a Madison location maybe a couple years before I left. From what I remember, and looking at their menu, it’s Detroit style deep dish rectangular pizza. Which if I’m being honest, is probably better than Maryland suburbs of DC style thin rectangular pizza.

Lost around 25lbs. Felt like crap with low energy for the first while. Took a few months to feel normal.

I don’t do cheat days so much as now that I’m at my weight goal, I’m just maintaining.

So now I’m doing lower-to-low carb... and only having the carb if I think it’s ‘carb worthy’. As in it has to be a good carb or a carb that I REALLY want. And even then, I’ll be careful not to go crazy.

So if I’m gonna have desert on a given day, I do low carb for all meals.

Or if I have some carbs with a meal (like a hamburger with a bun), then no dessert.

Though I made a bit of an exception while on vacation last week where on 1 or 2 days, I had a burger with the bun AND some ice cream in the evening.

But in the past, I might have eaten 2 burgers, now I’ll only eat 1.

And for stuff like ice cream, I stick with Breyers vanilla with cinnamon on it... which is relatively low carb and low cholesterol as far as ice cream and deserts in general go.

I stay away from ice creams that have chunks of caramel, skor bits, peanut butter cups and stuff like that which greatly increase the carbs, sugar and cholesterol.

It’s usually not that soggy or floppy, just a little at the tip of the slices, and a quick trip into the oven on a cookie sheet or a skillet takes care of that.

Yep, except the Rockville location which is around the block from me is the worst-reviewed of all Ledo stores and according to Yelp has now closed down. I grew up with it but apparently in the time I lived away from the area it went downhill. I moved back a couple years ago but only recently picked up from the Bethesda (Montgomery Mall) location because I was over at the mall running an errand and my wife was feeling nostalgic for the square cut stuff back in WI.

I went to a little Italian deli on The Hill and ordered a sandwich. What I did not expect was a 1/4" slab of Provel on it. Unlike when it’s on a pizza it’s easily removed from a sandwich, but it left the sandwich tasting a little empty. Eight years here in STL and I still haven’t gotten used to that stuff; I don't know if that is just because I'm not from here or that I'm just a cheese snob. I just spent the evening trying to track down some Cabra al Vino to no avail.

I do have an Imo’s gift card sitting around, value unknown . Until reading this thread I never realized that you could change the cheese.  I suddenly see free pizza in my future...

Yeah, I’m okay with Provel on a pizza every once in a while, but I don’t think there’s any way I’d seek out Provel to eat otherwise. There are so many better (real) cheeses to spend the calories on.
