Refreshed Oppo and saw this.
They’re now loudly proclaiming they don’t have anything to do with us.
Fine! (sniffles) I didn’t want anything to do with you either! (sniffles more because of allergies...)

Not sure, don’t think we’ve pissed off the Gawker- Verse in a while.
My initial hope was that it was to allow us to opt out of the image rights nonsense but it still made me credit the screengrab.

Settlement over photo/story rights, I would imagine.

Cool. Now get rid of photo credits if you have no liability

That’s my hope - they haven’t yet as I still had to credit it, hopefully they’ll do it soon though.

I’ ve found that if I copy an image to the clipboard and paste it directly into the text field when composing a post or reply, I don’t get prompted for credits. If insert the photo using the upload tool, it requires it. Plus, mobile handles credits differently.

I haven’t needed to credit in replies and it’s not terrible, just annoying,
on desktop, but MY GOD is it infuriating on mobile. Maybe it’s that my 6s is too small and not formatted to fit everything but scrolling around and trying to click in the right spot for the text fields to show up then navigating those
takes roughly forever for me.

I still get it for pasted photos. Well when I paste in something from the clipboard, I actually have two show up in the editor, and only the top one requires a credit (the other gets removed on posting). However if you apply to all, that will create a credit in the text below the phantom imagine.

I’d guess legal demanded it, either as somethi ng proactive, or to comply with some settlement.

I’ve never had it prompt when I add a photo to a reply, only to a new post. Only way I’ve been able to upload without attribution is to use the slideshow tool.

Kinja takes all the worst parts of all the worst sites, making a platform that’s worse than the sum of its parts...

Hot take: Kinja’s pretty good, all things considered. I t’s WAY better than a lot of CMSes I’ve used for quick, breaking news. It’s simple, light and I kinda miss it. WordPress in particular has been the bane of my existence lately.
Removing some of that simplicity by making image credits THIS tedious instead of, oh, trusting that the people you hired are competent to know what to do to give rights holders appropriate credit is baffling.
