Convertibles are bad. Period. End of story.
They leak water, hydraulics and electronics fail, they add lots of parts that make other repairs much more intensive, they’re very noisy inside, they’ve heavier than coupes, diagnosis and repairs suck to do. I could keep going on this list for hours.
Convertibles are bad. But if you really hate yourself, then yes, I suppose you could say a CLK would be better. But only because it’s a less complicated system than the SL. And that’s only marginally less complicated. Honestly, you’re not guaranteed to have issues with either, but if you do you’re going to hate that you’ve ever loved any car, it will try to destroy your enthusiasm.
If I were to buy a convertible (which I wouldn’t) it would be a manual roof. But honestly I’d rather have an open air roadster than a convertible (ariel atom, elise, slr 722 ), or even a can am spyder.
