Kinja'd!!!

I’m used them stopping my service a few times a day when I’m doing large downloads (bastards) , but this has been a different matter, being down since at least 9 am. At least they’re acknowledging the problem, finally, but I feel kind of lost without my alleged ‘unlimited’ internet access. Having to manually turn  on the lights? No YouTube? What is this world coming to?

Is there... a new way to turn on lights now that I’m not aware of?

I turn all my lights on and off with Alexa, or on schedules. Switches are for suckers.

A little slower than what I’m paying for though, especially on the upload side.

I went a little crazy with the home automation since my Nest thermostat came with a free Google home mini. They’re like drug dealers - give you an introductory taste and then rake in the $$$ when you swap out your bulbs, sockets, etc.

Hell, staying in so much these days, the only one I am to talk to is my digital assistant. I set her up with an Australian voice just for a change of pace...

And I bet that you're probably pasting less than I am for my 200 mbps (although normally closer to 85-90) connection...

I’m paying $80/month which is a bit more than I’d like, but I decided I felt better about paying $80/month for symmetric near gigabit than $40/month for highly asymmetric 200 megabit.

We’ve had Spectrum for a long time, because it’s really the only game in town. There’s AT&T, but they can’t compete at all on speed. Still, a lot of people on my neighborhood email group have been complaining about outages recently. I’m getting more and more instances where web pages hang or load very slowly during the day . I’m a little worried about what’s going to happen when EVERYBODY starts online school next week....

I work on the bbone of the internet for a diff company so take my biases for what you will but charter/spectrum is the worst.

Whats ironic is that i wfh and wher ei live my only option is spectrum. So..i have to deal w/their BS regularly but i got a verizon mobile hotspot as a backup and so far so good.

Yeah, broadband pricing is all over the map, but generally much better if you have real competition (i.e. at least two providers that aren’t DSL).

I don’t believe in such lazy practices.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go drive my car with an automatic transmission.

Australian, what was Cockney rhyming slang or any of less punishing accents not available?

Damn - I’m paying $70/mo for 200 down and some small amount up. I looked into AT&T fiber but it was the typical AT&T BS - advertise a low introductory price, when bundled, then charge for modem, this fee and that fee, with the total being something ridiculous that was nowhere near what was being advertised. After a year or two it should cost as much as anyone else, and you have to deal with AT&T...

Yeah, this is the out the door price for Fios including all taxes and equipment, and isn’t supposed to a promotional introductory price or anything. Comcast’s gigabit was also $80, though that doesn’t include the modem fee (while I own several cable modems, the fastest is only rated for 300mb)
