This can be explained by the fact that this car was replaced by the Fuego. It was a competitor of the mk1 Scirocco.

Very Italian design, that seemed to have a heavy influence Japanese design later in the decade, especially Datsun/Nissan.

Rare when new in the states, pretty much extinct now. Coupe convertible was also available here, but I have never seen any.
