Hey Oppo, been a minute. I’m trying to avoid exposure to online political arguments in an attempt to claw back some sanity. Instead I’ve been consuming too much news, doing director of recruiting things from my kitchen table and/or home office (my wife likes to monopolize the office for her job and I don’t care where I’m at), and getting creative with home workouts with limited equipment.
The auto-rotation sensor on my trusty Essential PH-1 died which stuck it in portrait orientation. It got annoying having to rotate all my landscape pics after taking them. So I picked up an unused OnePlus 7T on Swappa. It’s a good phone. The auto-brightness kinda sucks and it doesn’ t let you remap the double-tap power button gesture to open up third party camera apps (i.e. the Google Camera port I run) but otherwise I like it.
Fun fact: if I need to hop on a video call from my kitchen table, I use this handy dandy mini video light on my handy dandy mini tripod to ensure I look as good as possible on my work laptop’s mediocre webcam. Gotta maintain my vanity somehow.
Yes, dat !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! tho.

An emissions control hose tore on my S80, and now the oily intake manifold is soaking in a bath of aluminum-safe (I hope) all purpose cleaner.
It smells interesting.

Some purple lavender stuff. Simple G reen has a warning to not use on aluminum.

I ordered a CF hood for my Miata as a congratulations to myself for getting engaged. I got it on Monday after a 3 month wait and it looks like the mold the company used to manufacture it was faulty and it does not fit properly.

Had that “gotcha!” Moment I was waiting for, put my driveshaft through the floor. Hopefully gonna finish fixing this weekend and do my shakedown run for inspection.

I like the OnePlus 7t. Cheap and seems to keep on working fine.

I got the front end parts replaced on my 240z and then got it an alignment. I am now back to terrorizing the neighborhood with the high reeving scream only a 150 HP inline 6 can make on a 2" exhaust.

I almost smacked a bitch today when she racially profiled one of the people that work under me
Cheap Je ep project is coming together (I hope). Just waiting on stuff to be shipped.
Still waiting for a start date on my new job. If all goes well I might be able to afford a down payment on a house in just two years.

I’ve been alright - trying to limit my news consumption too while still staying relatively connected.
Broke the screen in my Pixel 3A XL on Monday and actually got it repaired, was contemplating replacing it but found a place that fixed it for $120 plus tax so I have a new OEM screen on my pixel again.

Surprisingly OK, I went from being afraid the company was going to lay me off during the 3 months I felt slightly better than useless during WFH, to somehow hitting 117% of my sales goal in the quarter ending in June, so there’s even a solid bonus coming this week.
Not spending a dime though, there’s a couple rooms in this house that need renovation work badly (one with a slight possible mold issue) and some local classic cars for sale I’ve been eyeing, but early signs for the next 3 months are not encouraging. So, all that will have to wait. Maybe. Plans fluc tuate based on how good I feel on a particular day.

Hopefully you’re not using Purple Power, because that stuff will definitely eat aluminum. Corrodes it pretty quickly even if just sprayed on. Simple Green is ok to use on aluminum as long as you don’t let it sit. Spray on and wipe off. It’s aqueous and slightly alkaline, so it will eventually react if you soak aluminum in it.
Coming from the moto world, Simple Green is almost universally used for degreasing no matter the metal.

Thankfully it is not purple power, and I had enough oil that a soak was necessary.

That sucks. I recently ended a longtime friendship that I probably should’ve ended a while ago over this person’s racist behavior. They’ve been getting increasingly extreme right wing over the years. We would just text each other back n forth about cars and other BS but at some point I had to set a boundary where their behavior was so abhorrent I couldn’t look past it.

My FZR is in the shop getting the carb cleaned and valve clearances adjusted so it’ll be a few weeks before I can ride it again. I went for a quick ride on my Honda yesterday but for the most part I’ve been too lazy and depressed to ride much.
Nice RX7 background, by the way

I’m sitting here watching some FuriousDriving on Youtube and working on a client’s laptop.
Humdrum is goes to the garage for an oil change and a power steering leak fix tomorrow morning...hopefully not a problem with the steering rack...

Need to do front axle seals on my WJ, need to lift the KJ (SOON), need to order that aluminum Ford PP driveshaft (its pricey), finish my garage, work on the house, etc. So much to do and not enough time. But work is steady and im keeping busy, so not too b ad.

That’s prudent given the instability in the economy right now. Hopefully it stabilizes for you.
The job market for recruiting people like me is terrible right now. Just one example: hiring activity is down so much that LinkedIn laid off 960 sales & recruiting people last week.
Th ankfully I work for a federal government IT & telecom contracting company. We’ve got more than enough work to do for multiple agencies so that means plenty of work and thus stability for me. I thank my lucky stars every day that I managed to get this job after being furloughed from my previous job back in March.
