Doug will dock points for the SVX-esque split side window...

Is f

Ooh... which came first (in development)? The SVX’s window or the F1's?

I guess the DeLorean got there first.

The Subaru SVX concept, penned by Giorgetto Guigiaro’s ItalDesign, debuted in 89. The DeLorean DMC12 and Lamborghini Countach had them before that.
Alfa Romeo Tipo-33 Stradale had an aircraft-style sliding panel , and they usually all for the same reason...
The window glass over-all was too big, or too curved, too sharply angled, or otherwise unable to completely fit into the door when rolled down... so only a part of the window moves .
F1 was probably in development then, but the styling wasn’t released to the public until just before it’s debut in 93...
And window-in-a-window, again is not new

Yeah, the DeLorean’s are similar, but the Countach’s are quite different.
That Tipo-33 Stradale... LUST.

They may look a bit different, by being cut in intersecting straight lines, but the concept and reasoning is pretty much the same... the tumblehome angle was so steep and the doors so aggressively shaped and jack-knife hinged, that the whole window couldn’t roll down...
S o it was cut into sections, and only part of it rolled down.

Just a much more elegant solution in the SVX.

Agreed. I loved the flush-fitted glass-over-frame windows in my 92 SVX. I just wish it had the rear hatch that my prior 93 Probe GT had, like ST160 Celica, or the DSM triplets, and others.... instead of a small trunk lid portal.
And I wish it had the 2.5GT Spec.B Legacy’s 6-speed rear-biased manual gearbox. Like an STI gearbox set to automatic, and with a bit taller touring gears for a 6-cylinder engine, rather than keeping the turbo engine above 3K RPMs on the highway.
I still wish for a modern version of that car... but Subaru is the last place I would expect one to come from now.
It was a more affordable alternative to Carrera 4... now I’d just buy a used 996 Carrera 4, 4S, or 997 Carrera 4.
