No RS6 for me

So I went to my local Audi dealership to inquire about ordering a new RS6. I came straight from the gym so I was hardly dressed to the nines and I look like I’m about 28 years old. Not a humble brag, just stating facts. Well I went in and they said they were sold out and there was no waiting list and that they have no idea if there will be any more coming. Basically they said beat it kid. Anyone know how accurate this is? I’m trying not to get too fired up about this but the experience left me quite disappointed and pretty sure my wife is done buying Audi’s from them. Legit or am I being a bit sensitive?

Your best bet would be to go on Audizine and see the current discussion for deposits . There’s a LARGE thread on this.

I think you’re being sensitive. They’re probably telling the truth. You have to understand Audi is *extremely* stingy with anything but their bread and butter in the US. I got the same response when I went in to look for a humble A4 Allroad last year. The dealer didn’t even know if there would be a 2020 model. Like anything that’s not a Q5 comes from a skunkworks division or something.  Besides that they were extremely accommodating and I test drove an S5. With the stir the RS6 caused I’m guessing most dealers’ allocation went immediately and they won’t hear anything until next model year is available for order.

Start calling other dealers, but yeah, you might be late to the game.

Are you Black? Cause if you are, this seems like typical luxury brand, “We don’t want THOSE people using our product” kind of shit that happens all the time.

OTOH it could be a situation where they’re reserving their small horde of RS6s for valued customers that have been shopping at that dealership  for years.

Thanks for the advice. I figured as much but I guess I’d rather be over sensitive than miss  out on it. I knew I was late to the game so not the end of the world. Plus the Taycan wagon, whatever they are calling it is a pretty awesome consolation prize, assuming I actually get off my ass and order one.

I am in fact, but that’s not where my mind went in this particular situation.

Did you ask to order one?  Looking at Audi Canada’s inventories, there are no RS6 at all and only 13 A6 Allroads in all of the country....might be indicative of the inventory in the states as well.

It is legitimate. Check the forums and boards. They have been sold out for a while and VAG is notoriously bad about releasing RS cars.

Edit: the dealer could have also been clueless. Try reaching out to Audi US as they are order only. Could be not every dealer can order them. That said, VAG really is clueless when it comes to special model releases and getting them over to the US - even after they formally announce it.

In my experience dealing with local Mercedes-Benz dealerships, the quality of the treatment you get is often directly correlated with how well you’re dressed and what you’re looking to buy.

If you came fresh out of the gym looking like a kid and was talking about ordering an expensive toy ? I have no doubt they weren’t taking you seriously. Been there done that with Mercedes-Benz, those dealerships never saw me again.

What I’d do is call around to other dealerships. It’s indeed possible they’re sold out and Audi hasn’t told them when/if they’ll get more.

Have you tried “ request a quote”  online?  Maybe try contacting other dealers and see what they say?

Yeah I’ve definitely had this experience myself but I’m not playing that game. I’m just not gonna get dressed up to be taken seriously,   I refuse. If that costs me a car then so be it. At some point it becomes a matter of principle.  What’s irritating is that we’ve bought a few cars from them in the past, and even the sales guy we use blew me off. At some

Interesting timing, I just talked to the guy in my town who ordered “THE ONLY ONE ALLOCATED HERE” but then read an article online about how Audi is only going to allocate/ship the first few hundred to specific dealers then orders are open and an no maximum for US orders of the RS6 so I can’t believe they didn’t want to take your money...
via https://carbuzz.com/news/audi-has-a-message-for-everyone-who-demanded-the-rs6-avant

While he couldn’t provide projected sales figures, it was made clear that anyone who wants an RS6 Avant can get one. Production will not be limited. Nor will dealership allocation. Those who have the estimated $120,000 asking price on hand can walk into any Audi USA dealership and place an order. Dahncke said it was repeated customer demand, some of whom reached out to him personally, that convinced Audi to sell the RS6 Avant on our shores in the first place.

I’m going to my local Audi dealership today to close on a vehicle. I’ll ask about RS6 allocations.

Given the unique engine it may be like the r8 and only 1/2 of dealers qualify

Call them, see if you get the same answer. Then call a different one

Interesting, why not?

For all my recalcitrant, “Fuck these guys I will go to this place after a rugby game and they will deal with me while I’m covered in mud and wearing booty (rugby) shorts.” The car dealership is a place I tend to make sure I’m dressed for,  because I just don’t want to go through it with some smarmy car salesman or redneck parts clerk who thinks he’s better than me.

So I took some of the advice and did call. Similar answer except they asked for my information to call when they knew more details. In person it was a hard no.

No, I think this is fairly common. It is about presentation and appearance. However, it can also work incorrectly as someone is overdressed, but also has too much credit card debt.

I tend to dress like a poor college kid, old faded clothes and my hair is always a tangled mess, but if you look closer I have an Omega Seamaster on my wrist. Some notice...others dismiss me immediately.

I tend to call it a “Flash bang” when you can stun someone as you aren’t what they originally had in their mind. I tend to get fantastic apologies once they realize the error.

However, when I pull into car places now to discuss a purchase they already spotted (or heard) my M3 pull in.

As others have said, check the forums; they usually know. Often folks post open allocations on there from their local dealerships. I’ve heard places like the bay area upcharge everything, but if you look just a bit outside then you can find stuff easily at MSRP or even a discount.

For the same reason of looking young (and being young) when I went to test drive an M2 for the first time, I brought my parents (also because I appreciate my dad’s opinion) . When I went back to actually place an order though I went by myself.

The engine might be unique to the a6 in the US, but it’s pretty ubiquitous to Audi worldwide. It’s the same 4.0l ea825 that they put into EVERYTHING. Fantastic engine.

Wh en they announced the car, they said it was order only. Could be this dealer doesn't do car orders.

I wonder how many they actually have to sell in the States for it to be worth their effort. I assume the profit on each one of these is pretty huge.

I look like I’m about 28 years old

I read that as “I’m 28 years old” and was like I wish I could afford an RS6 at 28. That said, when I was 28, I was generally treated well at dealerships like that, BMW is the one that seemed to be hit or miss. Porsche dealers always used to be the best in terms of helping.
