I got mine for $1,600 back in 2017; now the cheapest one in SoCal is a modified & bodykitted   MR2 Turbo for around $9k. There’s a stock Turbo with low miles asking $25k too. Not a typo, twenty-five thousand dollars for a 30-year old Toyota.

Non-turbo examples don’t often get that pricy, but last time one was on sale it was over $5k and in poor condition.

Time to sit back and appreciate I guess.

Had some “thermal issues” going up a mountain on a hot afternoon a while back. I’m still editing the video footage I got while I was out there. That adventure will get posted here soon.

Only been able to take it on short drives lately but I’m planning to get the necessary work done for reliability again. I have the Camaro for autocross but I hope to get the MR2 out there again soon too.

After Wednesday, I'll be done and then I've like two weeks before move in. I'm not quite ready for college to start again so soon.

The cooling system is a bit overbuilt - you overheated it N/A on a hot day?  Sounds like a head gasket or coolant leak

Bought mine for $7.5k 14 years ago, watched the depreciation curve take it down to about $3 and now I’d say it’s back up where it started

Try having twins sometime. Ours are soon to be 15, but those first few months were absolute hell from sleep deprivation. And my wife, god bless her, breastfed both of them. Particularly with our first, once he started sleeping through the night, we were still up every couple of hours to make sure he was alright. Crazy times.

I can’t say things will get better or worse, but I can guarantee they will get different.

Having drinks with buddies and playing Mario Party 64 tonight, work tomorrow for a few hours, then boating with the fam. I have a new cleaning person to interview Sunday morning, then bringing a crew out to boat aga in for the rest of the day Sunday. It gun be good. I’ll probably get the GTI washed somewhere in there too. Oh, and stop by the plant store to further my houseplant addiction.......

Change the oil in the Cruze, finish up my grad school application, go pickup a cabinet, and a few other chores around the house . Sunday I’m driving out to Indiana for a week for work.

Actually corrosion within the cooling loop was the main culprit, though the amount of time it spent at high temps has convinced me to get the head gasket replaced preemptively. No coolant in the oil or vice-versa but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Luckily it didn’t burn anything, just vaporized some coolant. I’m shocked it managed so well and is still intact.

Yeah that can definitely happen. If it were mine I’d probably just do a compression check and call it a day - how many Camrys have gone a few hundred thousand on a 5S after an overheat event?

If you have corrosion in the coolant lines, definitely keep an eye on the heater lines above the gas tank - I think I’ve heard of those getting pinhole’d and being a total PITA to find/replace/troubleshoot

Good point on checking compression; that might represent a good savings. I’ll take a look at the heater for sure; didn’t know about that. Thank you for your MR2 wisdom, as always.
