S old my truck last night and I’m really not sure how to feel about it. On one hand I’m relieved to no longer have to worry about it, but on the other I’m really sad to see it go. Between Dad and I we’ve had this truck for 20 years, 200k+ miles and countless trips and memories. This was a truck I swore I’d keep forever, but the rust and repairs were starting to grow beyond what I wanted to deal with, and the extended cab was getting cramped with my 2 year old.

I parked it about a year ago, at a friends place, when I bought my ‘14 but knew it couldn’t stay there forever. After having sat for a year I finally had a little self intervention and came to the conclusion that having it sit undriven wasn’t doing it, or me any good, putting it back on the road made zero financial sense, and ultimately accepting the fact that it would be years upon years before I got to fixing it, and even then it would likely never be at the top of my priority list. The only reasonable option at that point was to sell it, and use the money for something fun, either a vintage truck that I’ve always wanted, something fun I can share with the family, or ideally both.

$1600 feels like a kick in the pants for all of the sentimental value I have in this truck, but it’s not out of line for a rusty, high mileage, not very desirable truck at the rock bottom of its  depreciation curve. The new owners were happy to have it though, and were very impressed with the overall condition and the fact that everything worked well. They bought it to tow a small camper and I think they’ll take care of it well which helps ease the pain a little. I hope it serves them well.

That’s always a tough thing to do, sounds like you made the right choice though and it seems like the new owners will use and enjoy it.

It’s always sad to see a car go. I still miss my K3500 from time to time, but it was wholly unnecessary to keep.

My ‘93 F150 has been sitting for a while with a charging issue I haven’t had time to dive into. I doubt I’ll sell it though since I have plans for it and I love that engine/trans combo I have in it. I can’t wait to finish my house projects to have time to spend on it again.

I hear you. My 2001 Passat wagon is sitting in the driveway, getting about 500 miles a year on it (between full time WFH and now Covid). It’s worth about $1,000 on a good day, Fair/Good condition, but when I consider that (a) it still works great for times we need two cars and (b) I brought both of our kids home from the hospital in it, I can’t even imagine selling it right now.

Whoa! It's the end of an era around here. Whoa would have ever thought there would come a time when I would own a Jellybean F-150, and you wouldn't? I would have bet money against that.

The past week or so I’ve started considering moving on from my constantly-broken Jeep. Definitely hard to let go.

There will be another Jellyb ean in my life some day, mark my words. A Lightning if I have any say in it, and prices don’t skyrocket. If nothing else I’ll pick up a clean extended cab FX4 once I don’t have a need to haul a kid around any more.

It sounds like you made a smart decision, but that doesn’t make it any easier man. Being sentimental stinks cause whenever you have no choice but to let something go it stings more than it would for the average joe, but it’s also really cool because you can see beauty in something regular people wouldn’t just from the stories you’ve shared with the truck alone. Hang in there pal.

I’m keeping this one as long as possible, twenty five years minimum. Very dependable, it has done a lot of work with minimal repairs.

That’s a fine looking truck, love the color! Really what finally pushed me over the edge was the rust, without all of that I’d have kept the truck forever.

I still get compliments on it, especially for the color, as I am sure you did too. I have been able to keep rust at bay so far, although the lower left front paint began fla king over the winter. I bought some single stage exact match paint to touch up t he area. Everything underneath is super solid, the exhaust is even original. I’ve done all the maintenance and repairs myself except for one oil/trans/ diff/coolant service, it was a very frigid double digit below zero time in January and I just wussed out on doing it.

I hope you will get 20+ years out of your 2014. Best wishes.
