Gawd Dammit, Mario!*
All you had to do was deflect the questions.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Too tired to deal with the shit he just stepped in!
Sorry to leave you with this, Oppo, but I need sleep. I felt it was important nonetheless.
*IMO, racism is a societal illness that people need to address. It only becomes political when no one wants to deal with it socially nor through legislation properly...or when old icons start running their mouths when they shouldn’t.

I saw that earlier and was really disappointed. Not all that surprised, but still disappointed.

Sounds to me like Mario is part of the problem (which clearly does exist).

But he has black friends.
Not to defend him or bash him, but this is what one should expect from the establishment, especially at age 80. Things will move on no matter.

Is this horrible? No, not really. It’s disappointing, but sort of expected.
Maybe Mario needs to go talk to some people with really different views on race in racing, like Willie Ribbs.

While it may be disheartening to read from Mr. Andretti, if I may provide a view in some form of context as a non-us citizen
.
F1 is a global sport,
as of a report earlier this year from the 2019 season
the USA held the number 4 spot of fanbase at (34.6m). Falling behind China (81.3m), Brazil (54.7m) and Mexico (45.5m) [India is 5th at 31.1m].
-
F1 broadcast to 1.9 billion total audience in 2019
US fans thus comprise of just under 14% of the top 5 countries of which the BLM movement is likely little to non-existent in the other 4. I know the USA is used to being the big fish in many aspects, but you aren’t here. Just in the numbers game as using F1 as a platform, it’s kind of a question mark.
Then comes the debate that we discuss even here. And that’s the typical “Separation
of Church and State” deal. Be aware that there are people that are opposed to certain interests being used as a political, social or cultural vectors. If I paid to see stand-up then I can expect to subjected to it. However, if I go to a large concert then I most likely paid for and want to listen to music.
This has to do with having the interest retain a neutrality;
retaining
a spot to escape the ever dominating creep of political compass swaying
that is in
many
countries.
I don’t have as much of an issue with primarily US based and viewed sports delving into this (your own citizens are duking this topic out); you do you. With regards to global interests, one can’t expect the an organization to adhere like something US centric, such as NASCAR.
Which leads me to the hypothetical: I
magine if you’re watching F1 and suddenly your subjected to Chinese propaganda or protest
regarding their battle with people of
Hong Kong
or the
Muslim faith
.
It would be so weird and out of place as a viewer in the US,
Mexico
or Brazil
. They out number you over 2:1 as fans..
.
If Hamilton wants to use his own platforms to support BLM then he should be supported in his endeavours, but in terms of this becoming part of the big show???
I hope this can sort of explain why F1 would be reluctant
.

The BLM movement is about equal rights. Ci tizens in c ountries like China and Br azil (and the US) need a reminder of the actions being taken by their governments against equality. If Hamilton wants to use his spotlight to being attention to it, that’s his right. Any other driver can use their 15 minutes the same way.
The “shut up and drive” mentality is self destructive. Professional sports are a frivolity, and without a mass of prosperous people to support it, it goes away.

Except BLM isn’t just a US thing anymore

Also, Mario says “ He’s always been accepted and he’s earned everyone’s respect.”
I would bet Lewis feels otherwise.

Yes, they are a minority, but it’s not that they’re not welcome. I don’t know how to explain it, but there have already been black drivers in Indy, NASCAR and they have always been welcome, I’m even friends with some of them to this day
These guys really need some new material

Yeah, just to use soccer as an example with more non-white athletes than F1, racism exists across the globe and needs to be addressed. How many countries regularly throw bananas and make monkey noises and black players? Come on, now.

Well you’d be happy to know that I don’t have any. I don’t support FIFA or watch int football or domestic soccer. I played the sport for the better part of 15 years but watching it on a professional level is not of interest.
I agree with you on the organizations transgressions shouldn’t be tolerated and should be changed
from what I know
.
M
y knowledge is not much because of that. Likely about the same as yours regarding the current events such as genocide in Myanmar, Libyan civil war, Syrian civil war, Somali civil war, unrest in Venezuela, Chinese “re-education camps”, human rights violations in North Korea and the Middle East, and a host other world conflicts
that are resulting in mass loss of life and damage to their respective
countries. These make up some of
my top
world concerns.
I know you’re heavily active with regards to the BLM and equality movements. I’m not an active proponent in my country of it but I support your effort in make both your country and the world a better place. This is and my original comment is not to silence Hamilton or your efforts.
I simply believe
t
he world also
needs proverbial Switzerlands where people can enjoy their
activities and interests without it being subjected to
yet
another
forum
,
especially one so heavily driven by US politics
and culture
. I don’t think Mario chose his words carefully enough,
there’s parts
of the statement
I don’t fully agree with
or would have said differently
.
There exists
so
many avenues of promotion these days that
I believe
p
eople do need their
spaces from it.
I’m not against your ideologies
and LH
but my original
comment
is my
introspect as to
why
F1 doesn’t see
itself as
great platform to spread them. P
lease understand and
be tolerant
of this.
