I saw plenty of interesting rides yesterday. Starting with this Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
The interior was in great shape but the exterior suffered from the usual sun damage. Very solid overall.
Two door Tercels are uncommon, but when’s the last time you saw a Volvo C70?
Not much of a market for Limousines, much less an old beat up Town Car.
All this was near that Packard I showed earlier.

Which of this bunch would you take? That Thunderbird is cool but a little rough.
Hard to tell through the blue but this is a pickup with retractable train wheels. I never see these things on the road.
I never see Suzuki Aerios. This one was predictably rough albeit painted a nice shade of red.
Fire truck? Fire truck.
Interesting. Possibly authentic.
Against all odds, I saw three of these old UD cab over trucks Saturday. I don’t recall seeing any lately.
Oh, so that’s what you use those for.
Oldsmobile Cutlass has some interesting rims.

I’ve been catching up on Blacklist and when Red stole a Wagoneer and then later commented on how much he’d always wanted one I was in heaven.

I never watched that show. The Wagoneer really was very nice, just a little neglected. Good interior, no rust, not bad paint, and everything is there.

I’ll take the T/A. I’ll have to find someone to restomod it for me.
We see road-rail trucks frequently. With all the ports and chemical plants around this area, we have a lot of rail in the area to move bulk goods. With lots of rails comes lot of trucks to service those rails.

I just don’t usually see them on the road but rather actually on the rails. Interesting but also pretty simple concept.
I think the Trans Am would be the best of the bunch.

I see the kudzu is already reclaiming that Ford(?) pickup on behalf of the Earth. Better step in with some roundup and a machete!
Did you find anything cool at Goodwill, or just that Suzuki Aerio?
(sorry, I’m a map nerd, couldn’t help it)

Yes, that F100 is getting swallowed whole. Someone apparently has done a good job keeping it at Bay though or else it would have covered the whole lot. I really hate Kudzu, always being so needy, just casually eating entire cars when you look away for one second.

There are a couple of spots near my house where they make the transition from road to rail. It’s annoying when they hold up traffic on a major artery to get their truck off the road and onto the rail. One would think they would build a special pad for them on the side of the road , but no, they just block traffic.

I don't remember ever being held up by them. Are there not a lot of small crossings not at major intersections?

This is one of the spots along my typical commute where they make the transition.
That shack on the other side is a control station of some sort. There’s another matching shack on the left side. This is a common spot because of the control shacks and the nearby convenience store (that’s the driveway on the right). This is a t wo lane road that is a coll ector between the neighborhoods to the south and the nearest freeway access. This intersection can be avoided by taking an alternate route, but it is faster than the alternate route as long as there isn’t a rail truck here.

Huh. How long does it take for them to retract the wheels? Or is it the wheel extension that takes a long time?
Wait, why are there guard rails around the railroad crossing arms? You'd have to be either drunk or asleep to hit those. I've never noticed anything like that even at crossings at a curve in the road.

It’s not the wheel extension or retraction that takes a long time, it’s positioning the truck on a narrow two-lane road that’s the problem. Notice that the berm drops off on both sides, so if they roll off the road without being aligned with the tracks, there’s a good chance of getting stuck.
The guard rails around the crossing gates is common around here on two-lane roads. It’s cheaper to replace a guard rail than a crossing gate. Also, if the gate is being replaced, the trains can’t run. This particular track is the only direct line between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. You don’t want that to be shut down.

I’ll take the Sqaurebody Chevy pickup please.
Those are stock wheels on the Cutlass. I love the look of them.

Despite the sunbl asted interior of the Grand Wagoneer, how clean was the interior?

Exterior had bad paint fade but the plastics were in good shape. Interior looked very good. No rips or cr acking in the leather and the carpet was very clean. I think the dash was intact too. Hard to remember though. Much better than the exterior.
