So in the first pic you can see a slightly alarmed woman that I paid no attention to when I saw the car. She followed me into Whole Foods and asked if I was taking her picture... I was like... Ohhh I did take a picture of a Corvair, her pause led me to think she had no idea what a Corvair was. I had a Datsun hat on so I said I’m a car guy, there is in fact a classic car there right? You might have just thought I was a normal dude taking car pictures? Do you know any men at all?? I just explained I take picture of cars to show my car friends and she left. Nutter.
I saw this Dinan 8 BMW on the way home, a first for me. I see the sedans but this thing was cool.
Stuff, anyone know who this is a picture of? My historian friend has no idea and he knows a lot?:
I think I found the Fort Cronkhite ammo dump, it is behind a hill facing away from the sea and it’s a bunker built into the hillside with loading beams over the doors. I wonder how deep it goes, it’s all park service now so we can’t really get in there. I liked the old military house out there above that, my wife and Sylvie check it out. It’s right in the middle of where we go a lot, I will take the house!

Crazy people. Can’t she see that there is a cool looking old car right there and guys often like cars? I don’t expect everyone to be able to say it was a wacky rear engined air cooled coupe of the future of yesteryear, but still. That white with red interior combo is very nice.

Yeah I was a little surprised, she followed me all the way to the back of the store. I almost went Ricky Gervais on her and said, you think I want a picture of you honey? I saw an very old couple get in it when I left, had original plates, could be a one owner car.

I’m there almost every day, it’s like ten minutes from me. Battery Townsley is restored and you can go in it once a month, not right now I bet. I hike up Wolf Ridge a lot, I posted pictures of that area and hill 88 not long ago if you want to look it up. There are pre WWII structures through the cold war, there is a Nike missile base you can go see as well. Most of the barrack are forest service housing, offices and there is a bunch of federal fire.

I wish I had known it was there 20 years while I was residing in the bay area. I had been to Point Reyes and the Presidio. I guess no one ever mentioned it, otherwise I would have added it to the list.

The last one is the water storage which still seems to be in use, there is new pipes and equipment humming next to it. This does call it Townsley Reserve, so that confirms it. There are batteries all over the place, random concrete slabs and pillboxes all over the hills. Cool to see the pic of the spotlight, I think I know where that concrete slab is. I found one with an H painted on it, by the 50's they probably choppered up to Hill 88.
Pt. Reyes and Fort Cronkhite are where we spend the most time, I’m from Hawaii and I think this place is just as beautiful in a different climate.

Just how pissy about it was she, and did she adjust her chinmask before confronting you?

She said if I was taking pictures of her that it was illegal. I just decided not to mess with her, lots of people are freaked out these days. I just let her know it was about the car. She had the mask on in the store. I never noticed her so I was surprised.

I doubt it’s illegal , but IANAL and $100 says she isn’t either.
Not worth messing with people for shit like that these days, as much as I’d have been tempted to screw with her head.

Your mystery man is the artist Diego Rivera.

Oh yeah, that makes sense, I don’t remember him looking like that. He did a big mural at the Art Institute in SF, my great aunt lived across from there and I went in there one time years ago .

I would get one if I had the space, there are pretty good ones for not much money. I wanted to make a Carrera car, funny since Porsche is so famous for it!

I would’ve taken instance to crop her out in the least flattering manner. The egg shaped swirl over entire face and hair is particularly offputting.

I live in Larkspur, but I drive all over Marin Count y just across the Golden Gate . It’s a weird mix of rich people, creative types like Lucasfilm/ILM and hippies etc... So you get a bunch of random stuff, the Cars and Coffee is pretty cool.
