Good evening to you, too.

Hey. Have you ever painted wheels or had wheels painted? Or powder coated? Or do you know of any local powder coaters? I need new wheels for the V60 and found these, but I would want them painted silver. And I would want it done by someone who can paint. That someone will never be me.

Kinja'd!!!

Cheap, light and they fit.

Those look fantastic, Im sure they will look great on the V60.

I am also terrible at painting things so I wouldn’t even attempt it. I’ve heard good things about NV Coatings in Chantilly, but I haven’t personally used them. When I'm ready I'd like to get the Propus centers powder coated, and I'll probably use NV.

Ye ah, I think they will look good, but I don’t like dark wheels so a color change would be needed. Alright cool, thanks. I’ll give them a call and see what they say. Powder coating may actually make these too expensive, but I guess I’ll see.

Yeah, its worth calling around. I googled and there are a bunch of shops in the area that do it, but NV is the only one Ive personally heard about. They also have good reviews online.

I used to know a great shop up in Frederick, MD. My dad’s friend owned a body shop up there and had a powder coater he used that was great and pretty cheap, but sadly they are out of business now.

I’m going to have my garage done in a couple weeks and then I’ll get my media blast cabinet setup, at which point I can strip wheels. But I still suck at painting.

Just got off the phone and the guy was super helpful.  But it’s $175 a wheel to powder coat or $125 to paint.  That puts me back at the cost for Polestar wheels.  But he did say it would only be $400 to rhino line my El Camino bed, so that’s cool.  $700 for a color change is a lot.  I could buy a paint sprayer and the paint for less money.

I do have a line on a set of these too but the offset is more than I would ideally like to run.

I guess I could build a booth on my patio and cook them in my kitchen?

Those look nice! But excessive offset would not be good.

You know what wheel I weirdly think would look good on a Volvo?

Kinja'd!!!

No idea why, I just like the wheel, and its not normally a style I’ d like. But its a 5x108 so it should bolt right up.

You could! I guess like a tent or something to contain the particulate? And then cook them in an oven. Ive also seen people build ovens using that high density foam board with the metal foil outsides. I have a friend that does Cerakoting who built one that way and it works quite well.

Looks like it might be an eastern box turtle. Rarely see those. Everything around here is a painted pretty much.

Cerakote is probably pricey, right?

I am generally a stock wheel fan for Volvos as they make so many that look good.  The Focus wheels were just a thought since I could get a set for just under $800 brand new.

I think it works out to be about the same as powder coating, but its less than ideal for wheels. It’s very hard and scratch resistant, but if it does scratch its basically impossible to repair, so you have to strip it and start again. Its also UV sensitive and fades more than powder would. There are UV clears designed to work with it, but now your price goes up even more.

I also agree about the stock Volvo wheels. They have some great ones. But recall that Ford owned a part of Volvo at one point (hence the European 5 cyl. Focus RS, etc) and a lot of wheels interchange easily enough.  So there are a few good Ford wheels that I think look nice on Volvos, including the ones you chose.

I’ve always been nervous about powder coating in the kitchen because of the chemicals it might leave behind.  I’m probably paranoid, but poisoning my food worries me.  I have thought about finding a cheap oven on Craigslist for this stuff though.
