Guess we’ll see how much initial attention equates to sales.

I suspect they will have a hit with this. They seem to be doing everything right. I know I’m even thinking I’ll at least go take a look at one when I am car shopping next , even though I really am leaning towards a sports sedan as my next car.

I suspect so, too.

However... is the Gladiator as much as a sales success as expected?

Jalopnik actually had a take that I agree with: what’s the purpose of the Blazer?

For what most people want in a car, the Equinox is superior to the Blazer.

I don’t feel like the Gladiator was as well recei ved as the Bronco. Plus the Gladiator has weird proportions that turn a lot of people off to it. And the Bronco has a built in advantage

Kinja'd!!!

The Gladiator has a significantly smaller customer base simply because it is a truck.

Good point.

FWIW, I hope it’s a huge seller (and that they eventually offer the manual with the good stuff).

GM literally has 7 SUV sizes.

Trailblazer

Trax

Equinox

Blazer

Traverse

Tahoe

Suburban

There’s no reason for at least 3 of these to exist.

Me too...base model with a manual and the Sasquatch package is perfect.

Kill Trax, Blazer, Tahoe.

The Trailblazer is the new, much better replacement for the Trax. The Tahoe has a  big SUV price with little space. The Traverse is massive inside and still capable.

There are some key differences. Blazer has a higher seating position, larger interior, v6, aggressive styling (which does not look too good). The segment has a decent amount of customers, people who want something larger than a RAV4 or Rogue but don’t want a 3 row. Honda and VW both did the same thing.

As much as I’d prefer the bigger motor, the 2.3 with the factory tune would do just fine.

No, they need the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade. Huge money maker. The new generation has fixed a lot of the gripes of the old ones. I just went and checked out a 2021 Yukon Denali at my old dealership ye sterday. Expensive as all hell, but a nice truck.

Agree on the others.

In Q4 Jeep sold 16,660 Gladiators and 52,012 Wranglers.

Still, that’s 16,660 more trucks than Jeep sold the year before.

I maintain that the Blazer was a missed opportunity. A “Camaro inspired” sporty SUV that in reality is basically a tarted up Equinox. It’s built on a generic GM FWD/AWD platform and as has been pointed out, is redundant with other GM models.

Instead they should have taken the Camaro Alpha platform (RWD/AWD) and made it a 4 door ( the Cad ATS is a 4 door Alpha), and given it the option for RWD or AWD (t he Cad ATS can be had RWD or AWD), and offered the 2.0T Four , 3.6L V6 , and 6.2L V8 (all of these engines fit in Alphas).  GM basically had all the perfect ingredients for a real performance SUV and completely neglected them to instead make some generic garbage.
