That’s a bit over $630 per pound.
I’m betting the reserve was probably right around $100k.

Cool car and all, but total crack pipe at that price. There’s a lot of things out there that are a lot of fun for a lot less money.

Once the central banks pump a few more trillion into the markets it’ll sell for that price. Either way, foolish laborers will never attain assets attainable 40 years ago, let alone a joke of a car.
Fuck the poor.

Comment on BaT said 2 others went for 100 and 130. Comments also said this is a fine example so it should have gone for more. Left the auction when the bid didn’t go up much this morning. Glad I’m not in that market but that is a cool, little car. And the Emma comments were good for a giggle.

Is this the “canary in the coal mine” for a bubble market about to explode?

Hard to fathom. I personally would have plenty of reservations about buying this.

Good.
Fuck the cowards who use reserve prices, anyway. They should just start the bidding at the minimum they hope to sell it for.
Does BaT have proxy/automatic bidding like eBay has? With an eBay auction with a reserve, if your max bid is above the reserve, it automatically goes up to the reserve. This is a good way to discover the reserve, and then y
ou can retract your bid.

heh. I’m thinking the market already ‘sploded. It’s now getting back to a reasonable view.

I sure see that on 911s and 912s... They don’t all trade for $100K.
If the market’s not collapsed, it’s at least softened a bit.

I’m honestly surprised it stalled out there. The last two that sold went for 100k and 130k respectively. This was the even rarer version that was built for Canada. I think it’ll show up at somewhere like Auburn for an auction.
I think we finally found a style of car that the bring a trailer crowd won’t overspend on.

I think that is definitely coming, but I think this car is too much of an oddball to be a good indicator.

Yeah, I was surprised when the bids seemed to stall out. I honestly expected it to go much higher. I’d be curious to see what happens if they try again at a future Auburn, In auction.
I wonder if we finally found a vehicle class not well represented among the deep pockets that go to bat.

I’m just sad that there are actual people who actually paid 6-figure sums for these...

I’d need to know the actual reserve to say specifically, but the high bid here was quite a bit below what the last two on the market went for.
This wouldn’t even be my first choice among microcars, but it’s a damn fine example.

I’m pretty sure it does based on how quickly I’ve seen big jumps from a vehicle that hasn’t met reserve then suddenly it shoots up to a price that does. Whether or not you can retract bids once placed though I don’t know.
I really hate the cases where you see a car with a starting bid of $10k only to find out the reserve was 7 or more times that.

I’d love to own a microcar, but this wouldn’t even be in my top 5 choices yet it’s one of the more expensive examples.

I’ve seen sadder things go for crazy money on BAT. Some of the mundane 80’s cars that have sold for close to 6 figures come to mind.

At least eBay has second chance offers! It works as a private buy-it-now listing only for the high non-winning bidder. Sellers can also use the second-chance option if a winning bidder backs out for some reason.
The seller should let the winner buy the car for 78k
