Okay, so the press photos were perhaps more flattering than I suspected. This is one oddly proportioned car, even for a mid engined one.
I’m disappointed. It is just too busy and so bulky looking. Lots of vents are to be expected, but these are b i g vents. That side air duct could swallow a whale. My impressions are that this car needs to lay off the ‘roids. It looks too bulked up for its own good.
And I thought the Camaro looked hard to see out of.
That haunch just isn’t particularly pretty, especially compared to other mid engined cars. I dunno it just shows that they’ve never tried this before.
One of the biggest letdowns was how hard it was to see into the engine bay through the clear glass cover. I’m 6 feet dead and standing on the curb I could just barely see it. I could just see some plastic covers and a hint of a red engine block. Nothing else.
Interior was more impressive. The passenger is strangely cut off from the controls but it does live up to the hype. The touchscreen looks like more of an afterthought in person however.
Now onto a shockingly clean automatic Toyota Cressida. The blue velour interior was breathtakingly perfect. I didn’t know these were sold in the states actually but it turns out they were.
I can’t remember the last time I saw one of these. Where has this one been hiding? It seems like a shame to bring it out on such a hot day. Close to 100 degrees at times and the sun was so high overhead I was sweating the entire drive with the aircon on full.
A long boi. And by long I mean l o n g .
What is this monstrosity? F150 single cab stepside is uncommon enough but this one has a debadged Lincoln Navigator front end with a truly awful hood scoop. How could anyone think that hood scoop would look good?

“ It is just too busy and so bulky looking.” sums up whats wrong with most cars from the last decade or so.
The hood scoop on the F-150 look straight out of a Midnight Club racing game.

I’m assuming the current design lange trend of overstyling will start to shift to the opposite in several years or so. I’m excited to see what the Corvette might look like if that happened.

The C8 is just not particularly elegant looking. Purposeful, but the proportions are wack.
F150 looks more like what you would see in a free mobile game.

If they had gone for a minimalist wedge look even with modern bulkiness it would look so much better. I thought it looked so good before I saw one in person.

I kind of understand the huge vents; this thing needs to be able to feed and cool the 700hp+ Z06 and ZR1 engines that are going to be back there, and cooling a mid- engine car is a nightmare. The C7 Z06 had cooling issues, and the ZR1 had the hood practically removed to keep the thing cool and that was a front engined car.

Perhaps you are right. I th8bkbmagbe it just wasn't in proportion to the rest of the car is all.

I think the problem is the colour. It just doesn’t look right in silver.

Y ou’re right; m y disdain for silver clearly got in the way but also silver is not suitable for it. That color is for boring cars people can’t be bothered to wash and Astons. Nothing else. The C8 would probably wear an electric blue very well.

I’m more of a front-engined proportions person myself, but I can appreciate this car as a fine example of the mid-engined set. Tastes for s harp angles and big vents are a very individual, and you hear lots of different takes on how the car looks in person. For me personally, I like it more or less depending on the mood I’m in at the time, but it definitely needs color. Also, to my eyes, the wing on the back is important to have.

I genuinely dislike silver. That is for cars you can’t be bothered to wash and Astons. Not a revolutionary mid engined performance icon. A nice electric blue might have changed my mind. Good spot on the odd looking lack of a wing.
This just isn't as much to my taste as the C7. Too busy and too bulky. The styling cues are all there but they don't work together. Maybe I'll soften as to this design when I get used to it.

I liked the C7 better myself, although I mourned the loss of classic Corvette curves when it came out (and still do).
I think silver should be banned as a car color, more so than black or white, no matter what the car.

Yes, it just loses the lines in a sea of meh. CUZ was a great design though regardless of what you think of the spiky bits.

Maybe they should add pop-out vents like the Murcielago had, that only open when it needs more air ? Every car needs more Lamborghini in it.

The C8 is OK...kinda meh to me as well.
My mid-engined modern car of choice, by far, is the Alpine A110...I like ‘svelte and curvy’ over ‘ANGLEZ, LOOK HOW MODERN WE ARE, LAWL’.

That would help counteract the bulbousness. They also need to pick maybe two lines and continue them down the side instead of just slapping flame side surfacing on everything.

I really love the original A110 as well...one of my favorite classics!
Opponaut Bman76 had made this awesome silhouette wallpaper of the original awhile back....I think his series of similar wallpapers was all before your time here? He also did a few others, a classic FIAT 500, FIAT 126, Citroen 2CV, Citroen HY van and others among them!

Yes, that would have been before my time. Interesting. My Citroen GS wallpaper is due for a change but I want to keep it in the manufacturer family. Those cars have such classic outlines while I don’t think the C8 silhouette is particularly special.

And exactly how many must be consumed first? I’m thinking illegal substances and many beers were consumed over a weekend for this to happen.

Depends on tolerance really. I would expect many given the level of effort. This didn’t happen in 10 minutes. Therefore some must have been consumed during the origination of the idea. More consumed during the purchase, install....so on and so on.
Really consumption probably never stopped from idea conception through the present day.

Probably. The step side honestly didn’t make much sense to begin with and these mods just make the preceding decisions more confusing.

I have a cool Citroen 2CV wallpaper I found somewhere...it’s of a yellow and black Charleston, but it’s actually a really well done painting!
I used it for a good long time awhile back! (If you click on it once, then right click on it and select ‘View Image’, it’ll open a high res version if you wanted to dload it...that’s how I do it on Firefox anyway)
:)
Badges also make for cool wallpapers too! I have an old FSO Polonez badge wallpaper set on my desktop PC atm:
...and a
c
lassic FIAT 500 rear boot lid badge set as a wallpaper on my laptop! :)

That is a very pretty painting. This was always my favorite color scheme.
Not sure if you saw this but:

I think a ruined 4CV would be too depressing for a wallpaper but I do like the shot.

That C8 looks better in silver than I’m usually willing to admit about silver (yawn) cars.
And as for this...
Just. Take. Two. Parking. Sp aces. Blocking the aisle like this is much much worse .

Having seen numerous C8s in the wild now, my biggest impression every time is just how tall and akward the proportions are, ESPECIALLY for a mid-engined car. It’s not only not attractive to me in the flesh, but it’s just straight-up akward, like a bad imitation of a real car in a video game where the creators couldn’t get licensing rights to the real thing.
Like you said, it’s obvious that this is something new for them. Granted, they’ve put engines out back before, but the C8 makes it look like it’s a completely foreign concept to the designers in Detroit.

I question the need for a vehicle that actually is two spaces long but who am I to judge. It doesn’t have improperly aimed lightbars!
Also, after seeing one in person, no the C8 should NEVER have had silver on the options lists. Any other color would have looked so much better.

The front engined C7 with a bulky engine in the front looks sleeker straight on than the C8. Why is this thing so tall and upright? I couldn't see into the glass engine cover standing on a curb on my tip toes. Just strangely ungainly, like someone wrote down some measurements in the wrong unit on the height or length or something.

Who knows, maybe it’s a fully justifiable f arm truck that gets used to its fullest. But h e needs to put on his big boy shoes and be more considerate if he’s going to be taking something like that around public areas. If he can’t figure out how to park that thing like a decent human being, maybe there’s a limousine driving school nearby that can help him.

I agree 100%. The front end looks twice as tall on the C8 than on the C7, even though the C7's freakin’ ENGINE is up front lol.
And then the C8's rear is so tall, squared off and boxy, it looks like they tried grafting a 5th gen Camaro’s rear on to a mid-engine structure... AKWARD!
Even though I wasn’t exactly in awe of the design in pics, I was still excited to see it in the flesh, but man alive is it a he ad-scratcher instead.

Yeah, I just was surprised that what I saw was what I was promised. Those golf bags in the trunk really ruined the proportions. I think this will be a one generation only layout now that I've seen it. Fun as a novelty as long as I don't have to look at it. Shame so much potential is hidden behind such an awkward facade.

I had read the same, that the rear design and proportions had a lot to do with the fact that they were adamant about fitting two golf bags in the trunk.
Thing is, I swear I read that the original NSX could also accommodate two golf bags in its trunk, and look at how sleek and coherent that design is ! Granted, it houses a tranverse V6 which allows for tighter proportions than a longitudinal V8, but still, I just don’t get how GM botched the proportions so, SO badly.

A friend who likes the C8 in person says this is the first one he’s seen that he dislikes. The lack of a front splitter just kills the look and it needs a wing. Also, horrible wheel choice for the color. If you can draw the eyes visually downward, that blunt front end looks a lot more attractive. The rear just shouldn’t be the same height as the front, so a big wing also helps give it a wedge shape. Shame that someone actually spent money on that. Don’t do drugs, kids.

Too much camaro from the back, and the tires aren’t nearly wide enough to fit the car. For my money, I’d take a C6 Z06, but they are cool cars, but not pretty at all.
Now if you want pretty... but to be fair. They do cost a few bucks more.

To be fair, I don’ t think I could configure a C8 I dislike more. Everything about the way this one has been optioned is deeply unfort unate. Too much chonk in the rear, too much chonk up front. It needs to be pointier in the front and have a big old wing at the rear to get to a point where I’d be okay with it. How can they make the front of a mid engined car look so much bulkier than that of the preceding front engined car?
