Oh man, that sucks.
It’s the few that ruin it for the rest of us. I mean it’s simple enough, ‘wear a mask or keep your distance, if you can, do both’.

Not hard, but unfortunately, some peoples brains are too soft.
But still mate, take care There’ll be a cure for Covid19 long before there is a cure for stupid.

Pretty, but not really that good at being roads (and especially unpleasant for cyclists, at least with road tires).
A pity it’s so hard to make asphalt roads attractive.

One of the biggest reasons is the cobbles are so easy to maintain, if any sink a little, lift it out, pack a bit more sand or soil, replace the cobble. Much easier and cheaper to maintain than asphalt and will last hundreds of years.
Because they are noisy in the car and give a rough ride, many people low down for a smoother and quieter ride.

That level of labor is often considered excessive (at least where I’ve lived). Hell, it’s not unusual to see places just slap some asphalt in where it’s degraded. This is brick, and the same concept should apply, but:

Ouch, that’s ugly.
The cobbles here can be done in a few hours by a one or two man crew.
Dig out a few cobbles, add some sand, replace the cobbles, tap them level and then fill in between them.
Asphalt, means more work and equipment (unless your just filling a pothole).
