Distributor crack?  I had that issue...twice.

I had a bad coil pack that was doing this on the Miata. When it rained, there was enough moisture to get the coil pack to arc out of the #4 coil pack socket .

May not be relevant to yours but my 2001 Outback would misfire when it was wet. Ended up having to replace one of the engine control modules because water was getting in and doing damage.

This is what I would say unless his engine runs a coil pack

Rock auto makes the parts cannon such an attractive choice

I stuck my hand in the bay while the car was running and I could feel a tingle.

If it’s still the Forester with the EJ, then it’s a single wasted spark coil.

Yikes. Well I’m hoping this sorts it. The coil does have nearly 2 00k on it so it’s due for a replacing.

All my parts and a magnet delivered to my door.

For fun, get a spray bottle and spray the coil while the engine is running. Likely the coil is the culprit. The casing occasionally cracks which can cause the issue your seeing. It should also create some pretty blue sparks!

Plugs and wires aren’t a bad choice to do regardless. Though, NGK coil pack and wire set with Bosch plugs...?  Ok.....

You want me to knowingly spray a bad coil to see the the sparks and question my choice spark plugs in the same post?  That’s a bold move.

Just lightly mist it. Seriously, I’ve done that as diagnostics before. Just don’t touch it in the process!

And I’m just messing with the plug brand!  NGK is my go to, but that’s just me.

I stuck my hand in the bay and could feel the tingle that’s all I really needed. I’m certain it’s the coil but I figured I’d do plugs and wires while I was at it.

I know you’re just messing. Bosch hasn’t let me down yet!

And if you’re like me in Canada, you get name brand parts for 1/3 of the price of the parts store.....after shipping! I still can’t get over the 2$ name brand inner tie rods I got. Insane

Those aren’t the multi- prong bosch plugs are they? They used to have a habit of the electrodes breaking off and scoring cylinder walls.

Worked for my Jag; was hard to start and cyl 6 sometimes went dead in wet weather. Wires didn’t even look that old. Much better starting and haven’t had the slightest misfire since.

Yeah it’s definitely also significantly cheaper. The only time I hit the parts store is if I need something right now.

Nope. Just one prong.
