The absolute very best of Washington was that after fighting for independence for years and having the ability to take over the entire country at a whim he lived up to his pr inciples and walked away letting the newly formed government work as designed. We could be Russia or worse right now, but we aren’t and it’s largely because of that decision. Washington is one of the most important people in the entire history of humanity.

Have you seen Hamilton ? There are good parts and bad, and people have different opinions about hip hop, but this part gets me every time for just the reasons you summarized:

yes I have - I admit I am not a “musical” kinda person but I do think it does a very good job of communicating the feelings of these seemingly abstract leaders to a modern audience. I really like that it really doesn’t dumb down some of the complicated relationships and dealings of the time. I think watching Hamilton and one of the readings of Fredrick Douglas’s 4th of July speeches makes a nice, valuable, informative combination for any American in 2020.

It spurred my daughter’s interest in the history of that area like no class or scholarly book ever could. For that reason alone, I consider it worth the (considerable) price of the ticket.

Where do I go to get those minutes of my life back? People have too much time on their hands if mocking George Washington with crassness is on the table.
It isn’t prohibited, but that doesn’t give it merit.

So, having a differing opinion, and trying to keep a sense of humor about that difference... is something wrong with me?
Consider my sense of humor now expended.
I don’t need to abide “T he I ndespensible M an” , the F ather of the U nited S tates, the P resident of the C onstitutional C onvention, hero of the American Revolution, and the first president of the United States who turned down that being a lifetime-appointment, and one of the most dignified men in history, being mocked vulgarly for being a champion of the freedoms that are being used to mock him, by people who have neither taste, good humor, nor historical knowledge.
He was not a vicious, hateful, mean, or vindictive man. He did not hate british children. Before the Declaration of Independence, he was a British subject himself from childhood into adulthood.
B efore we go off the rails… he emancipated the slaves he owned and inherited as part of the Mount Vernon Estate, and provided for the elderly among them as part of the estate... and spoke out against the English throne at the time that was perpetuating and mandating the slave trade far more than abolitionists in 11 of the 13 colonies that later became states. The 18th Century is not today, and even then most of the founders were abolitionists, fighting against an entrenched institution that pre-dates written history, and affects all races. Britain and the US abolished slavery in the 19th century, after Washington’s lifetime, yet it still exists today elsewhere.
Now, a t a time where both freedoms and history are being destroyed before our eyes, I don’t have to play along and pretend that it is a positive thing, because the same history that is being destroyed, denigrated, and mocked, has proven that these current trends have turned out disastrously throughout history.
Why mock important historical figures, rather than mocking, vilifying and countering the actual evil in our world today, like human trafficking and enslavement, subjugation, and degredation that still goes on around the world ? Would that not be a better use of time and talent, than mocking the founders of the most free and just country in history? It isn’t perfect, because people are imperfect... but feel free to give it a go somewhere else, if you think the United States, it’s founding, and it’s heritage are worthy of mockery, vilification, and eradication.
Are you taking the Lord’s name in vain while asking what is wrong with THEM, or just me?
I was going to leave it at a funny Billy Madison movie quote . I am through with that.
There isn’t anything wrong with me for not appreciating crassness, vulgarity, and mis characterization.
There is something wrong with promoting and accepting it, it is bearing false witness, also known as LIES.

“ Are you taking the Lord’s name in vain while asking what is wrong with THEM, or just me?”
Well, that answers that question. Thanks for clarifying!

Everything created for thoughtless entertainment does not take away from meaningful discourse. They are two completely different things.
This really is thoughtless. The video might as well be making fun of Mr Rogers or Gandhi. That’s not the point. Being funny is the point and that was accomplished.
In the interest of saving time, this was created in the past so no time from right now is wasted lol
