So I had to rebuild a door that fell apart last winter. The latch on it never worked properly, only worked from one side I hated it. In the process of rebuilding it I had a brain storm and came up with this.

H ow is the crank mounted inside the door. Through a section of metal pipe or just inserted through the wood?

I’d consider a piece of pipe cut in half as a stop on inside of the door if that is bare wood as well. Either one left unchecked will damage the wood fairly quickly and before long you’ll be right back out there fixing the gate again.

Yeah it needs tweaking. It has a bearing and race or “cup” but only on one side. The door ended up too think it get both sides on.

The stop is just a lag screw.

Ashtabula-type cast crank? How does it turn? Chainring still on it? More details, please. This is interesting.

It’s a crank off a pre ww2 Schwinn. The bike was destroyed when it was left Outside during the winter. It was hit by a snow plow and the frame was bent. I bought it at a yard sale like 8 years ago for 5 bucks.

The chain ring is a skip tooTh “ sweetheart” It’s still on there
